A family arriving for the first day of school.

The students and staff at Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School kicked off their school year on the morning of Thursday, August 18. Some students came with their families and others rode the bus or walked, but most everyone met in the gym that morning.

The middle schoolers first met in the gym for an assembly at which they reviewed the expectations and rules for the new school year. The students also stayed in the gym to learn about their teachers through a game called “Two Truths and One Lie.” The students went to their classrooms after the assembly. As the day progressed, the students went through their regular classes and received their iPads.

Marin Heinen said, “It was good to be back in school and see my friends.”

The elementary students were dismissed from the gym and eagerly went to their classrooms and went through the day. Elementary students had fun meeting new friends and reuniting with old ones. As they went through the day, they played games and got to know their fellow classmates and teachers.

Sawyer Edelman said, “I had fun and it was a great way to start off the year!”

Students at NCEMS can’t wait to make the new school year unforgettable!
