Fourth Graders lined up for a group photo in their costumes

Fourth Graders at Nemaha Central Elementary School lined the halls on Friday, January 28 to celebrate Kansas Day. The students dressed as a famous Kansan that interested them to give a presentation explaining the Kansan’s accomplishments.

There's a wide variety of famous Kansans for students to choose from, including famous scientists, movie stars, sports players, and music artists.  Amelia Earhart, Jerry Nelson, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Russel Stover are also common appearances, having a representative almost every year.

Caitlyn Moyer commented, “My favorite part was dressing up.”

For the presentation, the students wrote details about important achievements of their Kansan, information about their family, and some fun facts about their Kansan on notecards. They shared this information with students, faculty members, and parents who walked down the hall to listen and ask questions.

Hester Kramer said, “It was fun when we were learning about our famous Kansan.”

Kansas Day is a fun and educational tradition the entire school can partake in. Not only do the students researching get to have fun learning, but everybody present does, too.
