Eli Sudbeck Shoots a Free Throw

The Nemaha Central basketball teams were ready to pick up some wins against the Royal Valley Panthers on Monday, January 24. The boys were prepared to dominate the games against Royal Valley. The Thunder teams have been on a winning streak and plan on keeping it that way. 

With a record of 5-0, the eighth grade A-team was ready to play basketball. The first quarter went by quickly as the Thunder was on top of their game. Royal Valley’s offense couldn’t get started and Nemaha Central cruised right by them. Nemaha Central got some buckets to fall making the score 6-0 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Thunder were still dominating the game as they kept stretching the lead by a little each minute. With some good defense on both sides and both teams' offense picking up, the Thunder was still leading 16-7 at halftime.

The third quarter with the Thunder still in the lead the score ended, 31-15. The Thunder team continued to hustle and kept increasing their lead. In the fourth quarter, the Thunder excelled some more, winning the game with a score of 43-18. With this win, the Thunder A-team kept their winning streak going. 

The Nemaha Central eighth grade B-team took the court preparing to play a hard fought game. The Thunder started quickly with a good pace to come out on top. The first quarter buzzer sounded and the score was 10-2, Nemaha Central. After the teams’ huddle was over, the teams went back at it and the Thunder were prepared to score some more points. At the end of the second quarter, the Thunder increased their lead, 18-7.

The Thunder came out of the locker room pumped up and took the floor to begin the third quarter. With the end of one of the best quarters yet, the Thunder team stretched their lead to 27-12. The Thunder team were ready to seal the game, but Royal Valley wasn’t going down without a fight. The Panthers made a comeback but came up short losing a close game, 29-25.

Bob Langill said, “It was a hard fought game and a well-deserved win.”

The Nemaha Central seventh grade A-team was ready to take down another team. On a 5 game winning streak the boys were pumped up. Royal Valley was also ready to start the game knowing they would have to fight. The game started and the Thunder were making a run of a lifetime. They quickly outran Royal Valley and had a decent lead of 19-6 by the end of the first quarter. Neither team was willing to back down as Nemaha Central doubled their score, while Royal Valley added 9 points. The halftime score was 38-15.

In the third quarter, the Thunder team was ready to keep stretching their lead but the Panthers were fighting to cut it.  By the end of the third quarter, The Thunder team was still leading, 46-23. The Thunder was having a lot of fun out on the court and that continued into the fourth quarter as they walked away with a big 52-30 victory.

The Nemaha Central seventh grade B-team was getting prepared for the matchup against Royal Valley.  The Thunder team had a slow start in the first quarter with a small lead of 6-4. In the second quarter, the Panthers came back and took the lead going into half with a score of 10-13.

The third quarter started and the Thunder quickly took the lead back with a score of 21-17. The Thunder team was ready to finish the game with a victory, but Royal Valley was fighting them for it. At the end of the fourth quarter, Royal Valley got a last second shot to tie the game and send it to overtime.  Overtime started and everybody felt the fatigue kicking in, but luckily the Thunder was well-prepared and played hard to claim the victory, 31-29.
