The Nemaha Central Elementary School hosted a Lyrics, Literacy, and Appreciation Concert performed by the kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students. The concert occurred on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. The different classes sang several songs individually, with each class including a parent dedication song. After the vocal part, the students and family members went to the classrooms to view the various projects the students did throughout the school year.
The first group that performed was the kindergarten classes taught by Mrs. Madison Broxterman, Mrs. Lindsey Haug, and Mrs. Wendy Roever. The program started with the parent dedication song Skinnamarink, followed by the “Halloween Song,” “I’m a Very Fine Turkey,” and “Seasons.” After the singing was completed, the students met their families and went for a tour in the classroom. While in the classroom, the students shared some projects they had done including a turkey made of love and a thankful tree.
Blakely Holthaus said, “I had fun singing and my favorite song was the creepy one.”
Next up at the concert was the first grade taught by Mrs. Brooke Burdiek, Ms. Jenna Burger, and Ms. Carla Meyer. The first song they performed was the parent dedication “A Bushel and a Peck,” then “Costume Capers,” “In the Pumpkin Patch,” and finally “Halloween is a Very Unusual Night.” After the performance was over, the students shared a writing project that they completed for their families, as well as several other activities that they do on a daily basis.
Finally, the last class to perform was the second grade taught by Mrs. Odette Helm, Mrs. Heidi Holthaus, and Mrs. Amber Meyer. The second grade started out with the song “Home” as the parent dedication, followed by “The Owl and the Pumpkin,” then “At the Zombie Food Truck,” and finally “October.” After the concert was finished, the second graders displayed their skills to their families by showing what they have been learning in English through multiple projects such as a collage of nouns, a story using commas, and a special journal entry dedicated to their families.
Corbin Meyer said, “My favorite thing I got to show my parents was my desk pet.”
