The Thunder team ringing the bell after their win over the Holton Wildcats

The Nemaha Central Middle School football team hosted the Holton Wildcats for their first home game of the season on Thursday, September 16. The Thunder were looking to remain undefeated coming into the game with a 2-0 record, while the Wildcats were looking to improve to 2-1 on their season.

The Thunder started the game kicking to the Wildcats. Starting at the 20-yard line Holton started with a 12 yard run up the middle. After that run, the NC defense shut down the Wildcats forcing a punt. On the Thunder’s first play, they ran the ball to the right side and scored a long touchdown. The Thunder converted the two-point attempt and kicked back to the Wildcats. It was another quick stop this time forcing a turnover on downs. On the next series of plays, NC drove down the field and scored again. The NC defense continued to shut down Holton and the offense continued rolling, ending the quarter with a commanding lead, 24-0.

In the second quarter, the Thunder offense came out strong driving down the field in dominating fashion scoring another touchdown. The Wildcat offense continued to struggle against the Thunder defense. After another turnover on downs, the Thunder offense scored again making the score 40-0. The NC defense held strong, and the team went into the half without allowing a score.

The third quarter started with a long return for the Thunder, followed by a quick touchdown and two-point conversion. Once again the Holton offense couldn’t find the endzone and turned the ball over on downs. NC drove down the field scoring another touchdown making the score 56-0. The Wildcat offense fired up and scored a quick touchdown of their own. The score was 56-8 going into the fourth quarter.

NC started the final quarter with the ball and was driving down the field, but ended up turning the ball over on downs. Holton once again drove down the field and scored one last touchdown making the score 56-16. The Thunder let the clock run, ending the game with a victory, 56-16. The Thunder improved to 3-0 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 1-2.

Jack Macke said, “I am extremely proud of our offensive line.”

Kyler Ganstrom said, “It was a good, competitive game for our first game at home.”
