NCMS volleyball player Ali Lueger goes up for a block against the opponet the Hiawatha Red Hawks

The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball gIrls finally had a home game in their season against the Hiawatha Red Hawks. The NC volleyball girls played them on Monday, September 13, 2021. When the Thunder team stepped on the court they were ready to have a successful night and come away with all wins.

The eighth-grade A-team was fired up and ready to win. In the first set, they had lots of momentum and won a close one, 27-25. With their momentum up, the NC girls played phenomenally well coming out with another win, 25-22. Ready to get another win under their belts in the third set, the volleyball girls tried to keep their momentum up but came up short, 12-15. However, the team was still victorious over the Red Hawks.

Kailey Mady said, “I think we played really well and hustled all over the court! I was so excited to get a win!”

Next up was the eighth-grade B-team and they were pumped and ready to play. The NC Thunder girls tried their best in the first set, but couldn’t come away with the win, losing, 23-25. In the second set, they were determined to win, but unfortunately, they fell short with a score of 23-25.  They played the third set and lost again with a score of 12-15.  The Thunder girls may have lost this match, but they were some really close sets.

For seventh grade, their A-team was up first and they were ready to come out with another win on the season. In the first set, they were ready to destroy the Red Hawks, but they ended up losing a close one, 23-25. They battled back in the second set, but couldn’t come away with the win, losing again by 2 points, 23-25.

The seventh-grade B-team was ready to roll as they were up next. The NC volleyball girls came out ready to play and were very excited.  They played well in the set but didn’t come out with the win, losing, 22-25. Coming out on fire in the second set, they pulled off a great win, 25-12. In the third set, they kept the ball rolling, winning a close set, 15-11.

“We worked hard until the very end, didn’t give up, and we succeeded,” said Kendra Schmitz.

Overall, the Thunder volleyball girls had a night with some great volleyball coming away with two wins. The NC girls are determined to reach their goal of a clean sweep against their opponents.
