Kids Heart Health Challenge
On Jan 23, 2026, Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School had their annual Jump Rope for Heart. First through fifth-grade students went to the gym for an active and fun morning. Students worked hard fundraising, and all of their profits went to the American Heart Association. The total amount raised was $13,748.42, which was a new school record!
After fundraising, students participated in many activities in the gym. Some of the activities included: walking laps, a dance and meditation station, rock wall climbing, a rest station where they could eat apples, and a whole lot of jump roping! “My favorite station was the rest station because I could eat apples,” Terryn Loveall, 5th grade, said.
The kids also competed in a last-man-standing competition. The competition included each grade battling to be the last kid to stop jump roping. The winners from each grade were Nova Gadwood and Jolie Sudbeck, 1st grade; Ava Strathman, 2nd grade; Tinley Wilson and Silas Snyder, 3rd grade; Dawson Hunnighake, 4th grade; and Camden Sanders, 5th grade. Overall, the students had a great time and raised money for a great organization!

Famous Kansans
On Thursday, Jan. 29, the fourth graders from Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School participated in Famous Kansans. The Famous Kansans project is where students dress up as famous people from Kansas, and become living statues of their Kansans. To gain information on their famous Kansan students filled out a graphic organizer. The next step was creating a poster, making a presentation, and lots of practice. The day of their presentations, the kids got dressed, gathered their props, and took a class picture.
“My favorite part was showing my parents my presentation,” Jayla Scism, 4th, said.
