Girls Basketball
On Oct. 27, the 8th grade Nemaha Central Thunder girls battled the Bears at St. Marys. This was the 8th grade's first game of the season while there was no 7th grade game. The A- team had a close game, winning 24-22. Tatum Snyder had a great night with three 3-pointers and over all 16 points. The girls playing said that the game was very nerve-racking and scary towards the end when St. Marys started catching up. The B-team lost 15-22, despite a well played game.
“I think we fought hard, and played our very best against St. Mary's for our very first game. We pressed very well. It feels good to start off on a win,” Tatum Snyder said.

On Oct. 30, 2025, Nemaha Central Middle School girls played Atchison Middle School at home for the first game of the season. Atchison didn’t have enough for B-team games. The eighth grade team won against Atchison 29-5. The eighth grade girls started off strong with their press and good defense. Maggie Sudbeck had an amazing game that day with many defensive steals.
The seventh grade girls team sadly lost by one point, 22-23. They started off strong, but made a few mistakes, like making a few bad passes or traveling. “I think Atchison was a fun game. It wasn't hard, but it wasn’t easy. It was good to get everyone in and score points. Even though the seventh grade didn’t win, it was still fun to watch their first game,” Emmie Monier, 8th, said.

On Nov. 3, 2025, the Nemaha Central girls basketball team took a trip to Silver Lake. The 8th grade A-team girls played a tough game, but just couldn’t catch up to the Eagles with a final score of 18-31. The 8th grade B-team girls tried their best, but also took a loss, 19-25.
“I think we played pretty hard, but Silver Lake had a very aggressive defense, and we struggled getting our shots to go in the basket,” Tatum Snyder, 8th, A-team player said.
The 7th grade A-team didn’t have the best night, losing with the score of 18-24. The 7th grade B-team earned their victory by staying low on defense and hustling down the court, winning 17-11.
Even though NC didn’t have many wins, they still tried their best and have many more games to come.

On Nov. 6, the Nemaha Central Middle School girls basketball team played at home against Holton. For the 8th grade, the A-team started off strong with 15 points at halftime while Holton only had seven. NC’s defense was great! Everyone helped win the game with their points, but Logan Honeyman contributed the most with eight points for the game. The final score was 32-18. The 8th grade B-team scores were close at halftime, 15-10, but NC scored 13 more points the next quarter while Holton only made 5. Logan Honeyman had the most points, scoring eight points in both the A and B games. The final score was 28-15.
The 7th grade A-team’s score at halftime was so close with NC at 13 and Holton at 14. In the second half, NC wasn't as lucky and had only scored six points while Holton made 21. The girls did their part to help, but Sawyer Lutz made the most impact with 12 points . In the end; they couldn’t catch up with the score being 19-35. The seventh grade B-team had four points in the first half while Holton had 11. Nora Ranieri had the most points in this game with eight points. In the second half, both teams scored 12 points, so the final score was 16-23.

On Nov. 8, the Nemaha Central Middle School girls hosted the Marysville Bulldogs and SPPS Trojans for an A-team tournament.
First, the 7th grade girls played Marysville and trailed 8-21 at halftime. The girls fought hard in the last half, but couldn't catch back up, making their ending score 19-40. Avery Lueger and Sawyer Lutz led the team in points, scoring 7 and 6 points, respectively.
Next the 7th grade girls battled SPPS, playing a better game then the last. At halftime the girls had brought up their score to 16-10, and finished the game with a final score of 31-16, making the girls 1-1 in the tournament. The girls scored well this game, Sawyer Lutz scoring 7 points, Avery Lueger and Ellie Burkitt both scoring 6.
Then the 8th grade played their first game against SPPS, which was a close game but ended up not in their favor. The NC girls began the second half strong and led the game 15-12. At the end of the game, the girls’ final score was 22-34, losing their lead. Tatum Snyder scored an amazing 14 points, and Logan Honeyman scored 4 points.
“It was disappointing that we lost, but since I have friends from SPPS that's what made it fun. They are great competition,” Monier said.
Finally, the 8th grade girls battled Marysville, leading the score at halftime 17-8. They continued to work hard, bringing their ending score to 32-23. They also finished the tournament 1-1. Maggie Sudbeck and Tatum Snyder were the Thunder’s leading scorers of the game, both with 4 points each. .
“We won because of our hard work and determination,” Snyder said.

On Nov. 10, 2025, the middle school girls basketball team traveled to Riley County. The girls worked very hard, but the shots just didn't fall for them.
The 8th-grade A girls did not have a great first half and were down 6-15 at halftime. However, the girls were more aggressive in the third and fourth quarters as they had the same amount of points as Riley County in the fourth quarter. The final score of the game was 16-32, Riley County.
The 7th-grade A girls game was much closer. Sawyer Lutz had an outstanding game, scoring 12 points. The game was tight, heading into halftime with a score of 8-13. Both teams shot better in the second half, but the Thunder girls just didn’t shoot well enough. The final score was 21-28.
The two squads had a combined B-team game. The score at halftime was 8-12, and the ending score was 13-26. The Nemaha Central Middle School girls worked hard, but ended the day 0-3.

The Nemaha Central middle school girls basketball team played against Sabetha at home on Nov 11. The 7th grade A-team scored 20 points in the first half, while Sabetha scored 4. Nemaha held Sabetha scoreless in the second quarter. NCMS won, 34-9. Sawyer Lutz, 7th, scored the most points, making 12.
The 7th grade B-team had great defense and kept Sabetha from scoring in the first half, 12-0. In the second half, NC continued to dominate, ending the game 24-14. Emersyn Novotny, 7th, scored the most points, having 8 points in total.
Nemaha Central 8th grade A-team had decent defense, with the score being 16-7 in the first half. Tatum Snyder, 8th, was the leading scorer with 11 points in total. NC was able to come out with the win 25-13. “We played really well against our rivals,” Snyder, 8th, said.
Nemaha 8th grade B-team did well on defense, with the score being 7-6 in the first half. Although there were some shooting errors, they were able to come out with the win, 18-13. Callie Loveall, 8th, made the most points with 8 points in total, including two three-pointers.

On Nov. 13, the Nemaha Central Middle School girls basketball team played Jeff West. After a rough start, the 8A girls trailed 10-2 at the end of the first quarter. They finished the first half off, 17-12. After the third quarter, they still trailed, 23-18. The final score was 26-31; they won by five points.
No scores were made by either team in the first half of the 8B game. At the end of the third quarter, Jeff West led, 10-4. Unfortunately, NC didn’t come out on top, the final score was 16-11.
On the 7th grade side, 7A struggled in the first half, but in the third quarter, they started scoring points. This led them to get a win against Jeff West with a final score of 35-30. The 7B girls were winning by two points in the first quarter, but were down at halftime, 8-17. In the third quarter, they scored some points, but it wasn’t enough and they lost, 19-26.

On November 17, 2025, the Nemaha Central Middle School girls basketball teams played at Rossville.
The 7th grade A-team was down by 26 at halftime, and lost to Rossville, 12-48. Sawyer Lutz, 7th grade, had the most team points. The Rossville 7th grade A-team made a lot of outside shots helping them win the game.
The 8th grade A-team was up 6 points at halftime, 19-13. Despite missing most of their free throw shots, they ended up winning by 20 points, 38-18. Logan Honeyman, 8th grade scored the most points with 14, and the team itself consistently made more points than the other team per quarter.
The combined 7th and 8th grade B-teams were down by 9 points at halftime 9-18. They ended up losing by 7 points, 19-26, with their best scorer being Isabella Rohlmeier, 8th grade who had 7 points.
“We played really well together, but we didn’t play our best,” Tatum Snyder, 8th grade, said. In all, the basketball teams played skillfully as they went against impressive teams.
