NCMS Cheeerleaders

On Friday, September 6, 2024, the Nemaha Central Middle School (NCMS) cheerleaders attended the Spirit Spreader, hosted by the Highland Community College (HCC) cheerleaders and the National Cheer Association (NCA). The Spirit Spreader is a cheer clinic where participants can learn and practice cheers, chants, and stunts.

HCC and NCA  did a great job helping the cheerleaders learn their new skills. The students learned three new cheers that could be used for school games as well as a band chant to use during halftimes.

After practicing several cheers and chants, the cheerleaders moved on to stunting, including half-ups, thigh stands, and shoulder sits. They had a lot of fun and after practicing a few times, they nailed it. With the help of the cheer coach Deb Schmitz, the cheerleaders stunted safely.

“It was lots of fun and my favorite part was stunts,” said Payson Wise, NCMS cheerleader.

The cheerleaders enjoyed learning new skills and connecting with other teams to learn new tips and tricks, such as different ways to get the crowd pumped up. They will be using these skills to improve their performances.
