NCMS Volleyball Girls Compete at Sabetha

      The Nemaha Central Middle School volleyball girls traveled to Sabetha for their sixth regular season match in the Big 7 League on Thursday, September 26. The eighth grade A-team brought a 1-4 record, while the other NC Thunder teams were undefeated so far. The Thunder girls hoped for a clean sweep with their county rivals.

      The eighth grade A-team started off the first set with a ginormous lead against Sabetha. The Thunder team kept the lead all the way throughout the set to win with a score of 25-9. In the second set, Maggie Koch assisted the Thunder with a nice lead by serving 15 points in a row. Sabetha got the ball back and gained a few points, but the Thunder girls kept up their aggressive play to win with a score of 25-13. Finally, in the last set, the Thunder girls dominated the whole time to win the set with a score of 15-5.

      The eighth grade B-team began the first set with Emma Stallbaumer serving eight points in a row. Sabetha regained possession and tried to seize control of the game, but the Thunder team was able to keep their lead. The Thunder team did not let up and won the first set 25-18. The second set got underway with Sabetha taking the lead. After a few volleys back and forth between the teams, the Thunder girls had some great serves to win the second set with a score of 25-12. In the third set, the Thunder started out behind Sabetha. It was a very close game, but the Thunder girls won the third set with a score of 15-10. 

      Madi Scott said, “We played very well and had some very good serves and hits. We are hoping to win against Riverside and also win the Big Seven Champ title.”

      The seventh grade A-team started off receiving the ball, but soon regained the serve. NC kept the lead all the way until the end of the set winning 25-9. The second set started off with the Thunder serving the ball and dominating the whole way through to win the set with a score of 25-13. In the third set, the Thunder girls prevailed and went on to win with a score of 15-8. 

      Zoey Sudbeck said, “We all tried our hardest and it paid off. We also did excellent on receiving the ball and serving.”

      The seventh grade B-team started out the first set with great serves and amazing passes to help them win the set with a score of 25-8. To kick off the second set, Sabetha was ahead of the Thunder, but the Thunder pulled ahead and kept the lead the rest of the way. The final score of the second set was 25-11. In the third set, the Thunder controlled the ball throughout the entire set to dominate with a score of 15-6.

     In conclusion, all the teams played extremely well. The Thunder teams had a clean sweep against their county rivals, winning every set. The eighth grade A-team and B-team dominated all three sets while the seventh grade A-team and B-team followed suit.
