7 & 8 Grade Teams

The Nemaha Central scholars’ bowl team traveled to Sabetha for the Big 7 League Meet. The Big 7 League Meet is a round robin where every team plays each other. The league schools are Perry-Lecompton, Jeff West, Sabetha, Riverside, Hiawatha, Holton, Royal Valley, and Nemaha Central. At this meet, schools could only bring one team of seventh graders and one team of eighth graders.

The NC seventh grade team consisting of Noah Hilbert, Cole Ranieri, Landon Mady, Camden Scism, Ella Sourk, and Wrigly Williams, started out strong. They won 40-30 against Perry-Lecompton, and then against Jeff West 60-50. They took a turn in the third match and lost against Sabetha 40-70. Next, they picked up another win against Riverside 70-35. The next three matches didn’t go as planned for the seventh graders. They lost to Hiawatha 30-100, Holton 30-40, and Royal Valley 30-80. The NC team finished 4th place in the league meet.

“We played really well. It also was a great year and we had decent opponents,” said Wrigly Williams.

The NC eighth grade team consisting of Tyler Nolte, Harry Langill, Ben Bletscher, Marin Heinen, Alex Burkitt, and Makenzie Howard also started out strong with wins against Perry-Lecompton 80-60 and Jeff West 80-40. Their next match didn't work out how they wanted it to as they lost to Sabetha 70-80.  NC  bounced back and won the next four matches. They beat Riverside 60-55, Hiawatha 70-60, Holton 100-40, and Royal Valley 60-55. They had a very good night and claimed the Big 7 League Meet Championship!

Harry Langill said, “I had fun participating with my teammates and coming home from Sabetha with the win.”

Overall both teams did amazing. The seventh grade finished in fourth place and the eighth grade finished first. Both teams were happy to finish at the top of the league. The seventh graders look forward to competing again next year and placing better than they did this year.
