NC Bash Participants

The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School staff faced off against the eighth grade students in a game of basketball at the NC Bash held on Friday, February 24. The eighth and seventh grade students were allowed to participate in the Bash by being a ref, a scorekeeper, or being part of the pep club, and the eighth graders could also play against the teachers or be a team coach. There were many eighth grade students who participated as coaches for the student team.

The Bash was very fun and eventful with all the usual activity of shooting for pop and candy between each quarter. This year there was also a dance-off between the teachers and the students. The teachers won awarding them 10 points for their score.

The game kicked off and the teams battled it out in the first quarter. Things got heated as technicals were given to both teams in the second quarter. In the third quarter, many questionable calls were made by the favorite blind ref, Camden Scism. As the fourth quarter was part way over, it was announced that one dollar would be worth one point. Several students and teachers ran to the stands to ask for money to add points to their scores to try and win. At the end of the game, it looked like the teachers had won, but after the money was counted the students had won the Bash.

Kalem Schmelzle said, “It was a fun experience playing against my teachers and with my classmates.”

Mr. Stueve said, “The basketball game was pretty even, but once again the 8th grade fundraising skills were superior to that of the staff.”

At the end of the night, all the money raised was counted and it was a new record amount of $1,900!  This by far surpassed previous years. Thanks to all who donated to support our school.

“It looked fun to play the teachers and I’m sure we will beat them next year,” said Alexsys Lewis.
