The Nemaha Central Middle School Girls Basketball hosted Royal Valley on Monday, November 14. The last time the girls played Royal Valley all the teams beat the Panthers, so the girls were ready to defeat the Panthers again. 

The NC 8th grade A-team girls started off the game in a battle with the Panthers.  The Thunder girls were hitting shots, but so were the Panthers.  At the end of the first quarter, the Thunder had a one-point lead, 10-9. In the second quarter, both teams’ offense slowed down and the game was tied at 12-12. The third quarter was a lot like the second quarter as both teams only hit a few baskets. The Lady Thunder was down at the end of the third quarter, 14-16. NC had a great run of baskets in the fourth quarter and also played phenomenal defense to get the win for the Lady Thunder. The ending score of the game was 25-20. 

The NC 8th grade B-team game had a great start. NC played great defense holding the Panthers to only 2 points in the first quarter, 7-2. In the second quarter, NC kept making their shots and playing good defense and the score at halftime was 19-2. The Lady Thunder had another astonishing quarter and only let the Panthers score 2 points. NC did a great job of going up strong and getting the Panthers in foul trouble to end the quarter with a 28-4 lead. The Lady Thunder had an excellent fourth quarter as they scored several points again to get the victory, 35-4. 

Rachel Nordhus said, “I think we played very well, I’m glad we got all four wins.”

NC’s 7th grade A-team started off amazing holding the Lady Panthers scoreless in the first quarter 11-0.  The Lady Thunder put up some good shots in the second quarter to increase their lead and the halftime score was 19-1. NC came out of halftime ready to dominate the Lady Panthers. The Thunder girls played extremely well in the third quarter and were dominating the Panthers, 33-6. The Lady Thunder wanted the win to keep their undefeated streak going and managed to get the victory, 39-8.

The 7th grade B-team started the game off shooting well to take an 8-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the shots didn’t fall for either team, but the Thunder girls made sure to stay in the lead and finished the quarter, 9-4. NC held the Panthers in the third quarter as their offense started clicking to go up 23-4 by the end of the quarter. In the fourth and final quarter of the game, the girls held tight and won, 25-8.

Kadence Buessing said, “I’m so proud of my teammates, and I’m so happy we came out with a win.”

The Thunder girls have been on a roll lately with all the teams winning their games.  They hope to keep this trend going with the final games of the season.
