Eighth grade B-team getting ready to start the match

On Thursday, March 3, the Nemaha Central Middle School Scholars’ Bowl team traveled to Holton for their last regular season match before the Big 7 League Tournament. The competing schools besides NC were Holton, Riverside, and Perry.

The NC seventh-grade A-team went against Perry and won with an ending score of 50-40. For their second match of the night, they played against Royal Valley and tried their best, losing a close one with a score of 50-55. Next up, the seventh grade A-team played against Holton, and with another match gone by the score was 50-60 and another loss. That didn't stop NC and in bracket play, they went against Perry B and won 80-10. In their last match, the NC seventh grade A-team went against Royal Valley A and redeemed themselves with a win, 65-20. The team finished fifth overall in seventh grade.

The seventh-grade B-team started off fierce against Perry and took a mighty win, 70-30. For their second match in pool play, they went against Royal Valley and played very well ending the round with a score of 100-30. Holton was next for round three and the seventh grade B-team tried their best but they lost 20-50. In bracket play, the NC seventh grade B-team played against Perry A and ended regulation with a tie. The tie breaker question was given and NC ended that round with a 65-80 loss. For the NC seventh grade B-team’s last round, they played against Holton B and lost again with a score of 25-60. The team finished fourth overall in seventh grade.

“The day went a lot faster than most of the other meets. It was fun like always and we didn’t do too bad,” said Kyler Ganstrom.

The eighth-grade A-team started the night off against Perry with a strong but close win by only 10 points, 60-50. For the second round, the eighth grade A-team played against Royal Valley and did amazing adding another win, 50-40. For the last round of pool play, the Nemaha Central eighth grade A-team competed against Holton and tried their best but came up short with a score of 35-75. The first round of bracket play was with Perry B where they gained yet another win, 100-30. For the last match, the eighth grade A-team went against Royal Valley A where they claimed fifth place winning 50-20.

The eighth-grade B-team started the night off good, winning a close one, 70-60. For NC’s second round, they competed against Royal Valley and had a devastating loss 25-50. For the third match of the night, they defeated Holton 100-10. Next up was Perry A-team in the first bracket play match where they ended up losing 45-80. The final match was against Royal Valley B, where NC rebounded and won with a score of 50-30. The NC eighth grade B-team finished in third place for the night.

“It was an enjoyable meet,” said Kathryn Yunghans.

Overall Nemaha Central did well at the Holton meet. This was their last regular season match until the  Big 7 League Tournament. The eighth grade won the meet last year as seventh graders and hope to repeat winning the league.
