The Nemaha Central Middle School Girls Basketball team traveled to Royal Valley Middle School on Thursday, December 2, 2021. This was the second to last game the girls would play and they were ready to take home some wins. Only the A-Teams played because of the shortage of Royal Valley players.
The seventh grade A-Team was first up. After a hard blow at the Panthers' defense, the Thunder girls were up 13 to nothing at the end of the first quarter. Another round of the same offense and an outstanding defense led NC to a commanding lead of 25-0 at halftime.
By the end of halftime, the Thunder was ready to crush the Panthers. NC kept up their game to leave Royal Valley in the dust, 31-0. The Panthers picked up their defense in the last quarter, but that didn’t stop the Thunder. With a victory in reach, NC played hard until the end, leaving the court with another win, 33-0.
Maggie Jones said, “It was a fun game to play and I was excited that we won!”
Next up was the eighth-grade A-Team. After a slow start to the game for both teams, the Thunder led at the end of the first quarter 6-2. NC then picked up their game to score nine points while only letting Royal Valley score three. The score at halftime was 5-15 with the Thunder in the lead.
After halftime, neither team scored that many points but the Thunder still had a lead of 19-8. The Thunder then played great defense against the Panthers. That led NC to secure their victory against the Royal Valley Panthers 29-10.
Kamryn Ranieri said, “We fought hard and played well together, and came out with our second win against Royal Valley!”
The Thunder girls had a very successful night at Royal Valley. Their determination and hard work paid off in the end. At the end of the night, NC was proud of the victory they had achieved.
