NCMS Passing the Ball Around a Defender

The Nemaha Central Middle School basketball girls participated in their own middle school tournament on Saturday, November 6, 2021. The Thunder team started with the seventh grade game against Atchison then the eighth grade played against them. After those games they played Marysville in the same order of seventh and then eighth grade. The tournament started with both teams entering those games determined to win their own tournament.

The Thunder girls started out hitting some shots and playing great defense to get an 8-0  lead in the first quarter. 2-0.  In the second quarter,  the offense stayed strong and the defense didn't give up much giving the Thunder a 15-2 halftime lead.

Time for the third quarter and the Thunder girls were ready to play more basketball! They came out and increased their lead,  29-4.  In the fourth quarter,  the Thunder girls came out with smiles on their faces and did their  “Lady Thunder Boom!” cheer. The Thunder girls were confident and finished the game with a 33-4 win.

Mykal Novotny said, “ It was an awesome game, we tried our best to win and we did!”

The Thunder team started out great again, not even letting a point slide, ending their first quarter against Marysville with an amazing score of 9-0. The next quarter consisted of hard defense and hot offense from both teams ending the first half with the Thunder up 17-8.

NC started the second quarter nearly doubling their score and only allowing the Bulldogs to score 2 more points that quarter, 32-10. With their lead set, the Thunder girls took it easy the last quarter only scoring a couple of points.  The final score was 36-10 with another Thunder victory.

Hailey Meyer said, “ I think we did pretty good but we could have put more effort into it.”

The Thunder girls dominated at the tournament and remain undefeated on the season.  They hope to continue this level of play throughout the remainder of the season.
