The Thunder girls stepped on their home court ready to get two more wins under their belts at the A-team tournament on Saturday, November 13. The teams that were invited to play in the tournament included Atchison, Marysville, and Sabetha. The NC girls had two goals, first to beat Atchison and then to demolish the Marysville Bulldogs!
All stretched out and ready to roll, the Thunder girls were taking on Atchison in their first game. Starting off on fire, the NC defense contained Atchison, while at the same time the offense was hot. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 9-0. The Thunder girls were getting into Atchison’s head and causing their offense to be cold. The score at halftime was 13-0 with a big Thunder lead.
The NC girls kept up their great work in the third quarter. The Thunder girls still had managed to keep Atchison scoreless, 24-0. Going into the fourth quarter, the NC girls were committed to keeping Atchison scoreless. The Thunder girls defense let up a little, but the Thunder team still came away with the victory 28-5.
“We tried our hardest and we came out on top,” said Regan Sloop.
After a game break, the NC girls got stretched back out and were determined to beat the Bulldogs. The Thunder girls weren’t confident in the first quarter, letting the Bulldogs get into their heads. The NC girls didn’t like the score at the end of the first quarter, 4-12. In the second quarter, the NC girls came out looking to get back into the game. The Thunder girls still couldn’t pull ahead and they found themselves down at the half, 8-18.
Marysville managed to stretch their score by adding 10 more points in the third quarter, putting the Thunder down, 13-28. The NC girls fought hard in the fourth quarter and outscored the bulldogs 12-10, but it wasn’t enough as they lost, 25-38.
Overall, the NC Thunder eighth-grade girls played well in the tournament. The Thunder girls hope to improve moving on in the season. Nice job Lady Thunder!
