The Nemaha Central Middle School Thunder Team played their sixth regular-season game against the Royal Valley Panthers on Thursday, November 4 at the Nemaha Central High School Gymnasium. Due to the number of athletes participating from Royal Valley, there was only a 7th grade A-team and 8th grade A-team game.
The NC 8th graders started out the game working hard and scored eleven points in the first quarter giving them the lead, 11-4. In the second quarter, the NC team maintained the lead and took a 13-9 lead into halftime.
After halftime, the Thunder team came out ready to win against Royal Valley. However, the Thunder team and the Panthers only added 2 points to the score ending the third quarter 15-11. Scoring 4 more points in the fourth quarter while holding the Panthers scoreless, the eighth-grade A-team came out with the win, 19-11.
Koree Stuke said, “Our team played great, and we pulled out another awesome win.”
In the first quarter of the 7th grade A-team, the Thunder girls started the night out with a breathtaking lead against the Panthers 14-0. In the second quarter, NC increased their lead to 23-0 by halftime.
The Thunder athletes were pumped up and ready to step back onto the court after the halftime break. The girls outscored the Panthers in the third quarter to bring the score to 37-4. The Thunder team kept up the Thunder drive and went out with a bang defeating the Panthers 41-6.
Alexis Spring said, “We worked our hardest and it all paid off in the end!”
In conclusion, the Thunder teams played spectacular against the Panthers winning both games. With the season moving quickly, the Lady Thunder athletes will be starting to play each team for a second time and hope to redeem some previous losses.
