The Thunder team kicks off the ball off to the Jeff West to start the game.

The Thunder middle school football team went on a long journey to Meriden to play the Jeff West Tigers. The Thunder, coming off a 3-0 start, was looking to make it 4-0 against the Jeff West Tigers. The sun shimmers and shines on the Tigers turf football field, as it awaits game time.

The Thunder kicked off to the Tigers to start the game. After a pretty good opening drive from the Tigers, they were at their 10 yard line. Looking to put points up on the board the Tigers tried to throw a short pass but it was picked off by the Thunder and returned to the 50-yard line. The Thunder proceeded to drive down and score a 45-yard run touchdown. Trying to make it 8-0, the Thunder team tried for extra points but to no avail. The score was now 6-0 with 5 minutes left in the quarter. The NC defense held the Tigers to a punt, and then scored a touchdown with their next possession making it 12-0. The extra point conversion again was no good and sent the game to the second quarter.

The second quarter of play started with a stop from the defense forcing the Tigers to punt and give the Thunder the ball to potentially score more points. NC did so scoring another touchdown with a two-point conversion to make the score 19-0. Jeff West needed to score before the half but fumbled the ball to the Thunder. The Thunder had the ball, they drove down and scored again with a two-point conversion making the score 28-0 at halftime.

The start of the third quarter saw the Thunder complete a crispy pass to a receiver down field to get them at the 8-yard line. Then NC snuck into the end zone for another touchdown, but failed the two-point conversion. Now the score was 34-0 and the Thunder wanted more. The defense again held out for a 4th down punt by the Tigers and got the ball at the 40-yard line. The offense scored once again by a long run to make it 40-0 with three minutes left in the third.

After the clock ticked down to start the fourth quarter, Jeff West had the ball and were looking to strike. The Tigers struck by completing a long throw to an open man to get them to the 3-yard line. They eventually scored to finally put them up on the board, 40-6. The Thunder answered and scored a few plays later to make the score 46-6. The clock ran down to 0 seconds and the game had come to an end.

Though the Thunder won by 40 points, they didn’t feel like they had their best game. There were several turnovers that didn’t necessarily change the game but very well could have. The Thunder advanced to a 4-0 record on the season keeping their undefeated streak alive.

“It was a tough and physical game against a good team,” said Cole Lyons.

“I enjoyed playing with my teammates and against the other team,” said Harry Langill.
