Top Six Finishers

The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School Spelling Bee took place on Jan. 9. The spellers started off strong in the practice round, spelling everything correctly. In the first round, Colton McKee misspelled “duets,” and all the other spellers spelled their words correctly. In the next round, Piper Huerter spelled “nestled” incorrectly, along with Skyler Heinen misspelling “shrouded”. Opening the next round, Korbin Schmelzle misspelled “cruiser,” followed by Ivory Ronnebaum with “vitally,” Rowan Williams with “scrimmage,” and Norah Palmer with “vulgar”. A tie-breaker round commenced with Korbin spelling his word correctly, and the other three misspelling their words, meaning Korbin got sixth place. In round four, Isabelle Bletscher misspelled “influence,” and Rhett Romney misspelled “snorkeling”. Round five opened, and Gabe Deters misspelled “achievement”. The final round commenced with Mason Enneking misspelling “badminton,” and Abbott Sullivan winning the Spelling Bee by spelling “gardenia” and “electorate”!

"I didn't think the words were very hard,” Abbott Sullivan, 8th, said.

The top six finalists will be competing at the Nemaha County Spelling Bee on Jan. 17 at Saints Peter and Paul School.
