NCMS Scholars' Bowl Competes at Riverside

The Nemaha Central 7th and 8th grade scholars' bowl team traveled to Riverside for a meet on Monday, February 24. The schools at the meet were Jeff West, Hiawatha, Riverside, and NC.

The NC 7A team played, but due to not having another sponsor, the scores did not get recorded. The team had a great night as they went 5-0 and placed 1st in the seventh grade tournament.

“My team worked well together,” said Alayna Scism.

The NC 7B team played their first match against Jeff West 7B resulting in a loss of 70-60 by using a tiebreaker round. In their second match, NC picked up their first win with a score of 90-30 against Hiawatha 7B. The last pool play match resulted in another win with a close score of 30-20 against Riverside 7B. NC 7B placed second in their pool. In the tournament, NC won their first match against Hiawatha 7B with a score of 90-30. In the second match of the tournament, NC won against Jeff West 7A with a score of 60-30. Due to a mix-up with which room teams were supposed to play in for the tournament, they didn’t end up playing who they were supposed to play, therefore no place was given.

The NC 8A team played their first match against Jeff West 8A and won with a score of 60-30. In the second match, NC picked up their second win of the day against Hiawatha 8A with a score of 70-30. In the last match of pool play, NC won 40-30 against Riverside 8A.  The 8A team placed 1st in pool play. In the tournament, NC played Jeff West 8B and won with a very close score of 60-55. In the championship round, NC played Hiawatha 8B and lost with a score of 80-30. NC 8A ended up placing second in the eighth grade tournament.

The NC 8B team had their first match against Jeff West 8B and lost with a score of 80-50. In the second match, NC played against Hiawatha 8B and lost with a score of  90-20. In NC’s third and last match in pool play NC lost in the tiebreaker round with a score of 50-40 against Riverside 8B. The NC 8B team placed 4th in pool play. In the tournament, NC played Hiawatha 8A and lost with a score of 60-30. The second match of the tournament, NC won with a score of 85-10 against Riverside 8A, and placed 7th in the eighth grade tournament.

“Everyone did well and we tried our hardest,” said Holden Bass.

Overall the teams did a great job at the meet. NC hopes to continue to do just as well at future meets. Good luck to all the scholars' bowl participants in future meets.
