The Nemaha Central Scholars Bowl team arrived at Holton Middle School with their two coaches, Betty Peterson and Laurie Stallbaumer, on Monday, Feb 27 for their third meet. NC was split into 4 teams 8A, 8B, 7A, and 7B who would each play 5 rounds against different school teams.
The NC 8A team started off great winning against Perry A with a score of 80-20. In the second round, NC had another great victory against Jeff West A with a score of 80-40. NC’s third round ended with a loss to Holton A with a score of 30-100. In the semi-final round, NC A matched up against NC B. NC A ended up losing this round with a score of 40-70. In the final match, NC A faced off with Perry A. The final match ended with NC 8A winning with a score of 90-15. NC 8A ended the meet with 3 wins and 2 losses.
The NC 8B team started out with a loss to Perry B with a final score of 30-60. Their next round against Jeff West B was a 100-40 win. NC B’s next opponent was Holton B. It was a close round but NC B lost with a score of 50-60. In the semi-final round, NC B matched up against NC A. NC B won with a score of 70-40. The final round was NC B against Jeff West B for the second time. NC had won once before but this time Jeff West came out on top with a score of 40-60. NC B ended the meet with 2 wins and 3 losses.
“Even though we didn’t win, we still gave it our all and had fun,” said Tyler Nolte.
The NC 7A team started the meet with a loss to Perry A with a score of 60-70. Their next opponent was Jeff West A. They won this match with a score of 50-10. NC 7A’s third match was a loss to Holton A with a score of 30-90. In their semi-final match, they were up against Holton B. NC A lost the match with a score of 30-50. The final match of the meet was NC A and Perry B. NC 7A just barely won the final match with a score of 40-30. NC A ended the meet with 3 wins and 2 losses.
NC B started with a win against Perry B, with a score of 80-40. In the second match, NC B was up against Jeff West B. NC B won the match with a score of 30-20. In NC B's third match, they were up against Holton B. NC won by a bunch with a score of 60-10. The semi-final match ended in a loss to Perry team A with a score of 30-50. In NC B’s final match, they were up against Jeff West B, which ended in a loss for NC B with a score of 20-50. NC B ended the meet with 3 wins and 2 losses.
“It was very fun and we played well,” said Lilly Leis.
Overall it was a great meet for both the 8th and 7th grade teams. Even though none of the NC teams placed first, the teams learned some new knowledge.
