NCMS scholars' bowl team.

The Nemaha Central Middle Schools scholars’ bowl team made their long journey to Perry on Thursday,  March 2.  There were also three other teams attending this meet. The teams that were attending this meet were Hiawatha, Sabetha, and Perry. 

The NC 8A team suffered two losses in pool play. Their first loss was against Hiawatha A, 20-90. Their second loss was against Sabetha A, 60-70. In the last match of pool play, they won against Perry A, 60-50. NC A went into the semi-finals with one win and two losses. In the semi-finals, they faced Hiawatha B. NC A won 55-30. NC A ended up losing in the finals 10-100 against Perry B. Overall NC A finished in sixth place.

The NC 8B team finished their pool with all three wins. Their first win was against Hiawatha B, 70-40. Their second match in pool play was against Sabetha B winning 110-40. The third and final match of pool play was against Perry B. NC B won 75-60. NC B came out of pool play undefeated. In the semi-finals against Sabetha A, they had their first loss of the night losing 30-90. In the finals, NC B played Sabetha B and they won again 70-50. Overall NC B had a third place finish. 

McKenzie Rottinghaus said, “It was a lot of fun and it is fun to compete against other teams.”

The NC 7A team started off winning against Hiawatha A 70-60. Their second match in pool play was against Sabetha A and they lost 20-60. Their third match was a win against Perry A, 30-25. NC went on to the semi-finals against Hiawatha B where they got the victory 65-25. In the finals, they played Perry A. They lost 40-70 placing sixth overall.

The NC 7B team went into their pool winning their first match. Their first match was against Hiawatha B and they won 60-40. In the second match, they lost 40-50 against Sabetha B. They also lost their third match against Perry B 20-40. They played Perry A in the semi-finals and lost 20-50. In the finals, they had another loss against Hiawatha B losing 60-70. Overall NC B got eighth place.

Cole Ranieri said, “It was a close hard fought battle in most matches.”

The Nemaha Central Middle School scholars' bowl teams did not do as well at this meet. This was the last meet until the Big 7 League Tournament. At the league meet, there will only be one team of 7th graders and one team of 8th graders.  The team hopes to place in the top half of the league at the tournament.
