8th Grade Scholars' Bowl Team

The Nemaha Central Middle School scholars’ bowl team and their coaches, Betty Peterson and Laurie Stallbaumer traveled to Royal Valley Middle School on Tuesday, February 21 for their first meet of the season. There are fourteen 8th grade students and twenty-one 7th grade students that are participating in scholars' bowl this season. There are 2 teams of 7th grade and 2 teams of 8th grade to participate at each regular season meet.

The NC 8th grade A-team got off to a great start defeating Royal Valley A 60-50. Next, they faced off against Holton A beating them 50-30. For the last round of pool play, they faced Sabetha A, beating them 60-40. After pool play, they went on to the semifinals and they faced their own classmates, the NC B-team. NC A won the match 70-30, putting them in the championship round. In the championship, they faced Sabetha A beating them in a close round, 80-70, to end this meet undefeated.

The NC 8th grade B-team started off with a win against Royal Valley B 70-10. Next, they faced off against Holton B and beat them 40-30. In the final round of pool play, they faced off against Sabetha B losing to them 40-80. They headed into the semifinals with the second seed, facing NC A. NC B lost 30-70 making them compete for 3rd or 4th. In the last match, they faced Sabetha B beating them 100-35, ending the meet with 3rd place.

Conner  Lueger said, “It was a fun meet, and it was fun to talk with kids from different schools.” 

The NC 7th grade A-team started off with a win against Royal Valley A 50-15. Next, they faced Holton A losing to them 10-40. In the final round of pool play, they faced Sabetha A losing to them 40-80. In the semifinals, they played Sabetha B losing 35-60. In the final round, they played for 7th place. They defeated Royal Valley A 50-15, ending this meet with 7th place.

The NC 7th grade B-team started with a loss against Royal Valley B. Next, they faced off against Holton B winning 60-50. In the final round of pool play, they faced Sabetha B winning 40-35. In the semifinals, they faced Sabetha A losing 20-60. In the final round, they played for 3rd place. They played Holton B and beat them 60-30 finishing this meet with 3rd place.

Nola Sudbeck said, "The meet was really exciting, and it was a good first experience.”

The NC Scholars' Bowl team had a great start to the season. The 8th grade finished 1st and 3rd, while the 7th grade finished 3rd and 7th place at this meet.
