NCMS Scholars' Bowl Participates at Sabetha

The Nemaha Central Middle School scholars’ bowl team took a road trip across the county, to Sabetha to participate in a meet. The four schools competing there were: Nemaha Central, Perry-Lecompton, Riverside, and Sabetha. Shortly after the teams arrived, they began the meet. 

The NC 7A team ended up scoring 80 points while playing the 7A Perry team as their first match of the evening. Perry came up short with only 70 points. After winning, NC played the 7A Riverside team and won, 45 to 0. Shortly after winning, NC faced the 7A Sabetha team. The final score for the match was 40-70 with NC taking their first loss of the night. Due to ties in pool play, NC came out in third place.

"I feel like we did very well and we worked very well together," said Dayton Nelson.

Going into tournament play ready to win again, NC 7A played Riverside 7B and took a clean sweep with the score being 80-10. The final match of the evening ended with a win for the NC 7A team as they defeated the Riverside 7A team with a score of 50-10. With a record of 4-1, the NC 7A team ended in fifth place. 

The NC 7B team played Perry 7B, Riverside 7B, and Sabetha 7B for pool play. NC was going strong in the first three matches, winning their pool. The scores were 90-15 with Perry, 60-15 with Riverside, and a close 40-30 win over Sabetha. 

After pool play, NC went into tournament play and played Sabetha 7A and lost with a score of 35-50. After losing their first game of tournament play, they started their last match of the night with Sabetha 7B and won with a tight score of 35-20. The 7B team also ended the night with a 4-1 record and a third place tournament finish. 

The 8A team started out pool play with a loss to Perry 8A with a score of 20-110. After the NC 8A team lost, they played against Riverside 8A and won a close one. The score for that match was 40-30. For the last match of the 8A pool play, NC played Sabetha 8A and lost 30-80. 

After not doing too hot in pool play, they went into tournament play and played Riverside 8B and were victorious with a score of 50-10. While on fire, they played Perry 8B in their last match and won with a score of 40-20. After their five matches, the 8A team ended in fifth place winning three and losing two.

“We did really well. I was really proud of my team and how well we worked together,” Kate Heinen said.

The NC 8B scholar’s bowl team came ready to play. They started the afternoon playing Perry 8B with an easy win of 90-20. Riverside was next and NC defeated them with a score of 100-10. While going on to the last match of pool play, they played Sabetha and lost with a score of 25-65. The NC 8B team ended pool play winning two matches and losing one match.

NC 8B started tournament play losing to Perry 8A, 60-50. For the last match of the night, NC played Sabetha 8B and won. The score for the match was 60-40. NC 8B ended the night in third place winning three matches and losing two. 

After a good evening in Sabetha for the NCMS teams, they headed back home. Overall the NCMS scholars’ bowl team had 2 fifth-place finishes and 2 third-place finishes.
