The Nemaha Central boys basketball team went head to head with Royal Valley on Tuesday, February 4, bringing home a pair of wins for the Thunder. Due to it being a make-up game, the B-teams did not play
The seventh grade teams started out with a close game with the Panthers scoring 4 points and the Thunder right behind with 2 points. The second quarter was a decisive lead by the Thunder as they scored 18 points while holding the Panthers to just 2 points. The score at halftime was 20-6
After halftime, both teams played well with Nemaha Central scoring 8 points and Royal Valley scoring 6. The last quarter ended with both teams scoring a few more points. NC added 4 points, while Royal Valley gained 5 points. The Thunder team brought home another win with a final score of 31-17.
“We played well as a team and made our shots,” said Collin Jost.
The eighth grade started off the game with a strong lead scoring 13 points over the Panthers leaving the first quarter with a score of 13-5. They kept playing well into the second quarter scoring another 14 points with Royal Valley only scoring 2.
After halftime, the Thunder continued to play well, scoring 11 more points, while the Panthers only made a free throw. At the end of the third quarter, the Thunder had the lead 38-8. In the last quarter of the game, both teams’ defenses played well with both teams scoring 4 points. The Thunder eighth grade team brought home another win with a final score of 42-12.
“It was a good game with great competition,” said John Langill.
Both the seventh and eighth grade teams brought home wins for the Thunder.
