NCMS Girls Basketball Goes Up Against Royal Valley

The Nemaha Central Middle School Lady Thunder went up against Royal Valley on Thursday, November 7 at Royal Valley. The Lady Thunder played great and worked well together as a team. The seventh grade teams and the eighth grade B-team won, but the eighth grade A-team lost by just a few points.

The eighth grade A-team started off the night winning the tip against Royal Valley. The NC team played very well and put up a great defense against Royal Valley. In the first half, the NC girls racked up a total of 13 points leading the Panthers who only scored 9 points.

Coming back into the second half, the Lady Thunder only scored two points, as their shots would not fall, and the Lady Panthers scored eleven points in the third quarter. In the last quarter, the Lady Thunder worked hard to get the ball in and score. Unfortunately, they fell three points short in the last quarter, losing the game 22-19. The girls played well but just could not come out top.

The eighth grade B-team came out ready to get revenge on the Panthers. The Lady Thunder won the tip and ran down the court to set up their offense. The Thunder scored six points in the first quarter, holding the Panthers scoreless. In the second quarter, the Thunder kept up the great defense to keep the Panthers scoreless, as the Thunder girls went on to score eight more points. The halftime score was 14-0.

In the second half, the Thunder came back out and scored four points in the third quarter as did the Panthers.The third quarter ended with the Thunder still leading 18-4. The fourth quarter went smoothly. The Lady Thunder scored ten more points and again, held the Panthers scoreless in the fourth quarter. The Thunder played great and came out with a win with a score of 28-4. Great Job Lady Thunder!

“We played very hard. It was a close game and we have a little bit to improve on, but as the season continues, I know we will do a great job,” said Emma Stallbaumer.

The seventh grade A-team started off their game with a great offensive quarter. They scored seven points in the first quarter and held Royal Valley scoreless. In the second quarter, Royal Valley picked up their offense and scored four points while the Lady Thunder scored five. The Thunder team was leading the Panthers at the half 12-4.

The second half of the game, the Thunder continued to score putting up four points as well as the Panthers. In the fourth and final quarter, NC continued to lead scoring three more points and allowing the Panthers to only score two. NC claimed the win 19-10. 

The seventh grade B-team continued the streak like the A-team. The Thunder scored four points in the first quarter while keeping the Panthers scoreless. NC scored eleven points in the second quarter making the lead bigger, while the Panthers only scored four. The score at the half was 15-4 with the Thunder in the lead.

Coming back into the second half, NC picked up their defense and only allowed Royal Valley to score two points while the Thunder’s offense scored six points. In the last quarter, Royal Valley started to make a comeback scoring eight points while NC only scored two points. The Thunder stayed ahead in the last quarter winning the game 23-14.

“Our team did amazing on our defense,” said Addy Frye.

The NC Thunder played great and put out their best effort against Royal Valley. Great job Lady Thunder!
