NCMS Football Team

The Nemaha Central Middle School football team took their home field for their last game of the season to face off against the Riverside Cyclones on Thursday, October 17. The Thunder came into the game with a record of 5-1 hoping for a win to end the season. They stretched and warmed up by kicking and practicing their individual position to get ready for the game. On the other end of the field, Riverside, 0-6, was getting ready to take on the favored Thunder team.

NC won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. NC kicked off against Riverside to start the game, but the Riverside returner dropped the ball and it was recovered by NC. NC ran it in for their first of many touchdowns of the night but was stopped on the 2-point conversion. The Thunder then kicked off again. This time Riverside was able to handle the ball, but the ball was soon turned over to the Thunder after Riverside was unable to get a first down. The Thunder football team then scored again and was able to convert 2 more points. NC had a couple more touchdowns and extra points to end the quarter, 28-0.

In the second quarter, NC scored again and kicked for the extra point. When Riverside got the ball back again, NC played tough defense and stopped Riverside in their tracks at the 40-yard line. Riverside turned over the ball and NC scored again. Riverside battled to gain yards, but the Thunder defense would not let up. The Thunder team scored a couple more times and kicked for field goals. At half time, the Thunder team had an impressive lead of 56-0.

NC warmed up and went over some offensive and defensive plays for the second half. The Thunder received their first kick of the game and kneeled. The Thunder football team had a long drive down the field to score and kick again. The boys managed to do just that. The score at the end of the third quarter was 63-0

NC kicked off again to Riverside. Riverside was not able to make it very far although they did get a first down. However, they eventually turned it over to the Thunder team. The Thunder had one last long drive of the season, but with the running clock, they fell just short of time and ended at the 5-yard line. NC won the game 63-0 ending the season with a 6-1 record. The NCMS football team had an amazing season this year.

“It was a fun game and we worked well together as a team,” said Peyton Ross.

“We played well. We executed well on offense and defense, and went out on the field ready to play 4 quarters of football,” said Dalton Childress.
