NCEMS Cross Country Runner, Presley Lutz

The Nemaha Central Middle School hosted a cross country meet on Thursday, September 26, at the Spring Creek Golf Course. The event started with an elementary fun run of 800 meters. Next, the middle school athletes from seven teams raced against each other in a two-mile run.

The runners prepared for the race by stretching and jogging the course to know where they would be running. The team had to run up hills and around obstacles for the race. Out of 18 seventh grade girl runners, Maddy Mosteller placed 4th with a time of 15:49 and Presley Lutz placed 9th with a time of 16:44. Out of 6 eighth grade girl runners, Hailey Nordhus placed 3rd with a time of 14:24.

Out of 12 seventh grade boys, Lane Mosteller placed 5th with a time of 13:07. Out of 20 eighth grade boys, Joe Korber placed 18th with a time of 16:25.

With a lot of hard work, the cross country runners are halfway through the season and have improved tremendously from their first race just a few weeks ago. The cross country runners were able to improve their time by training after school every day.

“It was a nice day to run and was a lot of hard work,” said Maddy Mosteller.
