NCMS Basketball Team Challenges Holton

The Nemaha Central boys basketball team had their fourth game of the season on Monday, January 20 with Holton visiting Nemaha Central. All teams played well with 8A winning, 8B winning, 7A losing, and 7B winning. 

The eighth grade A-team started off the game strong, scoring 10, while their strong defense only allowed 2 points to be scored by the Wildcats.The Thunder kept up the strong offense by scoring 20 points while the defense only allowed the Wildcats 2 points. NC had a big halftime lead 40-2.

Holton came back from halftime with a stronger defense only allowing NC to score 8 points while scoring 4 for themselves. In the final quarter, Holton scored another 4 points while NC gained only 3 points. The Thunder won the game with a final score of 41-12.

The eighth grade B-team had an equally stunning competition. Both teams spent the first quarter just warming up, with NC scoring 4 points  and Holton scoring 3. NC picked it up in the second quarter scoring 10 points and Holton scored only 4 points. The Thunder was up by 7 points at the half.

Coming back from halftime, both teams played amazing defense with both NC and Holton scoring only 2 points. The last quarter decided the game though, as NC scored 11 points and Holton only managed 2 points. The final score of the game was 27-11 with another Thunder victory.

“We were good playing as a team, but there's still many improvements to make to become a great team,” said Carter Rottinghaus.

The seventh grade A-team started the game off with a first quarter score of 3-6 with the Wildcats on top. The Wildcats got a significant lead in the second quarter scoring 10 points to NC’s 2.

Halftime ended and NC came back with determination. They allowed the Wildcats only 2 points while scoring 2 points of their own. Both teams gave it their all in the last quarter with both teams scoring another 6 points. The final score was 13-24 with the Wildcats taking home the win.

The seventh grade B-team also played well starting off their game with 4 points with Holton scoring 2. NC gained a decisive lead in the second quarter scoring 11 points while Holton only scored another 2. 

After halftime, the tension rose as both the Thunder and the Wildcats fought head to head with NC scoring 7 and Holton scoring 5. The last quarter was well-played by both sides as NC went on to outscore the Wildcats 4-2. The Thunder picked up another win on the night with a final score of 26-11.

“We had a lot of struggles,” said Dayton Nelson “but I feel like we learned from our mistakes.”

All teams played well with 3 wins for the Thunder and 1 win for the Wildcats.
