NCMS Lady Thunder Basketball Teams Defeat Sabetha

The Lady Thunder headed to Sabetha on Thursday, October 31, ready to play basketball. The Thunder team was excited to play Sabetha, but they were even more excited about the thought of winning the games.

The eighth grade A-team played first, with a good start to the game. At the end of the first quarter, the Thunder team had scored eight points, while Sabetha only scored two points. By half-time, the Thunder team had bumped their score to 12. Sabetha was still behind, but managed to add a couple more baskets to make 6 points.

The Thunder team worked hard in the third quarter and added seven points to their scoreboard. The score of the game was now 19-12. The Thunder team ended up beating Sabetha by hanging onto their lead in the fourth quarter. The final score of the game was 24-20.

The eighth grade B-team played next, and they had a rough start to the game. At the end of the first quarter, the Thunder team had not scored. Sabetha was able to score a couple of baskets to take the lead 4-0. The Thunder team ended up doing better in the second quarter, after making a couple of shots to get four points. Sabetha added a bucket to keep the lead. The halftime score was 4-6, with the Thunder trailing.

The Thunder team picked up their game in the third quarter scoring 9 points, while the Bluejays also added five points to their score.  The Thunder team took the lead, 13-11. The Thunder team ended up dominating Sabetha in the fourth quarter, to get the win, 21-13. Both Thunder teams were very happy to have picked up a couple of wins on Sabetha’s court.

“It was a really competitive game. Everyone brought their best effort, and I’m proud of the way that we played,” said Alyssa Frye.

The seventh grade A-team kicked off their game with four points in the first quarter, leaving Sabetha scoreless. In the next quarter of the game, Sabetha still had 0 points on the board, but the Thunder team had added only two points to their score. The halftime score was now 6-0, with the Thunder in the lead! 

At the end of the third quarter, the Thunder team was still in the lead, after adding another 2 points to their score. At the start of the fourth quarter, the score was 8-0. The last quarter of the game was frustrating for the Thunder, as they did not score any points. Luckily, Sabetha was only able to get a couple of baskets making the final score of the game 8-4. The Thunder was glad to have taken the win over Sabetha!

The seventh grade B-team had an outstanding start to their game, scoring seven points in the first quarter. Sabetha came up scoreless, making the score 7-0. In the second quarter, the Thunder team scored almost as many points as they did in the first, but Sabetha picked up their offense. The score of the game was now 13-4, with the Thunder team still in the lead.

In the third quarter, the Thunder added four points to their score, while Sabetha only added two. The score was now 17-6. The Thunder finished their game well, scoring seven points in the last quarter, while shutting Sabetha down again. The final score of the game was 24-6, adding yet another win for the Thunder! 

“Although Sabetha was good, we put up a fight to win!” said Madi Heiman.
