NCMS Football Pounces On the Panthers

The NCMS football team traveled to Royal Valley to play the Panthers on Thursday, October 8. The Thunder hit the road and made the hour bus trip to Hoyt. The Thunder looked to get another win but this one on the road.

The Thunder got off to a slow start after Royal Valley got the ball and put their first play into the end zone. The first play of the game has become a nightmare for the Thunder. However,  the Thunder quickly put the ball in the end zone after a strong drive led by running back Carter Hajek. The Thunder would score yet one more time in the first quarter, but after a rather slow start, the score was 16-8 with the Thunder leading.

In the second quarter, the Thunder came out ready to dominate. They forced Royal Valley to fumble 3 different times throughout the second and capitalized every time they touched the ball. They kept putting up score after score to add to their lead. But a late touchdown by Royal Valley made the game 40-14 with the Thunder on top at the half.

In the third, the Thunder again showed their dominance putting up multiple touchdowns. The Thunder sure came up ready to deliver blows and pound the ball into the end zone. The Thunder recovered yet another fumble as the Panthers kept coughing up the ball. The Panthers were able to score late in the third quarter leaving the score at 64-20.

In the fourth quarter, the Thunder took out a couple of starters and subbed in their other players. They already had a whopping lead and felt victory right around the corner. The Thunder boys knew they couldn’t give up another score like the first of the Panthers. However, the Panthers were able to string out a very long drive and scored. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful so the score was 64-26. The Thunder got the ball, and on a long sweep by Luis Lambrecht, scored with almost no time left on the clock. The two-point conversion would be missed and the game came to a close with the final score of 70-26 with the Thunder taking care of business in Hoyt. The Thunder boys increased their record to 5-1 on the season.

“We played well but I think we shouldn’t have given up 26 points. I think we can become a great team if we can figure out defense,” said Jayden Seitz.

“I think we did well but we definitely need to improve on our defense,” said Spencer Lockhart.
