NCMS Cross Country Team Opens the Season at Jackson Heights

The Nemaha Central Middle School cross country runners road-tripped to Jackson Heights to participate in their first meet of the season on Monday, September 14. Other schools participating besides NCMS were Holton, Jeff West, Oskaloosa, McLouth, Royal Valley, Everest, Pleasant Ridge, St. Benedict, ACCMS, and Jackson Heights. 

Participants in cross country from NCMS this season from the eighth grade include: Lane Mosteller, Maddy Mosteller, Presley Lutz, and Kaden Peterson. The only seventh grade participant this season is Bob Langill. The cross country team is coached by Jon Thomas.

The seventh grade race was 1 mile and the eighth grade race was 2 miles. The runners walked the course and warmed up before the race. Bob Langill finished his 1 mile race in 3rd with a time of 7:51, there were 14 male seventh grade runners. 

Now switching over to the eighth grade female's race, Maddy Mosteller finished 2nd with a time of 16:05 and Presley Lutz finished in 13th with a time of 19:33, there were a total of 25 eighth grade female runners. In the eighth grade male’s race, Kaden Peterson placed 4th with a time of 14:27 and Lane Mosteller placed 5th with a time of 14:37, there were 26 eighth grade males competing.

“It was a hot day but I still managed to run well and get second place,” said Maddy Mosteller.

The runners had a great start to the season with multiple athletes placing in the top 10. They plan on working hard and improving throughout the upcoming season.
