Attention Please

As of March 16, 2020, with the Governor’s executive order to temporarily close K-12 school buildings, your child’s special education services for the remainder of the school year will need to be reconsidered due to the District Continuous Learning Plan.  At this time each individual district is working with KSDE to develop a Continuous Learning Plan for all students, including those in special education.

It is our goal at MNESC to plan and prepare for instruction and maintain IDEA compliance as outlined in the KSDE Continuous Learning Plan.  We recognize there may be a discrepancy between the services available and your child’s IEP for the next few months. Your child’s services continue to be the priority, and during the creation of new Individualized Continuous Learning Plans, the determination of how FAPE is provided may need to be different in this time of unprecedented national emergency.

The current changes in special education services are not an IEP team decision, but instead are an effect of changes in general education due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please feel free to contact your child’s provider or the special education director for additional questions.

Sincerely,

Shana Steinlage
