On February 24 through the 26 the eighth graders form Nemaha Central Middle School job shadowed several businesses around Seneca. Mrs. Laurie Niehues, the school counselor, organized the event by helping the students choose a career to shadow. She also helped provide transportation for the students to and from the job site.
The students took a survey to find out what careers would best fit their interests. Once they took the survey, they received a list of 5 careers to choose from based on the survey results. Students chose a career to job shadow and the observation time was scheduled. Some students had to dress business casual unless told otherwise. Other students were allowed to wear jeans or coveralls because they were going to an outdoor job site or farm call.
The businesses the students job shadowed were the EMS Station, Life Care Center, the Law Enforcement Center, Koch & Company, Teddy Bear Child Care, Benskin Motors, Eric Bergman Remodeling, Heritage Tractor, Crestview Manor, Rainbow Communications, Seneca Veterinarian Clinic, and teachers at NCEMS. The students shadowed for about 2 hours in the morning and were given the opportunity to ask questions while shadowing. Thanks to all the local businesses for allowing the students to come observe.
“It was cool and a fun experience,” said Isabelle Evans.
“I learned a lot and I am excited to continue my interest in the career I chose,” said Abe Hilbert.
