NCMS and Holton Boys Basketball Teams Clash Again

The Nemaha Central Thunder basketball teams went head to head with the Holton Wildcats on Thursday, February 13. Both teams tried their best and played well.

The Nemaha Central eighth grade A-team started out the first quarter with a strong 18-7 lead. The second quarter saw NC gaining a bigger lead over the Wildcats scoring 14 points and not allowing Holton to score any points. The half ended with a big Thunder lead of 32-7.

After halftime, the Wildcat defense worked hard only allowing NC to score 8 points, while scoring 1 point for themselves. Both teams worked hard defensively in the last quarter, with NC scoring 4 points and Holton scoring none. The final eighth grade A-team score was 44-8 with a Thunder win. 

The eighth grade B-team also played well the first quarter with NC scoring 8 points and Holton scoring 3 points. The second quarter saw NC gain a decisive lead against the Wildcats with NC scoring 12 points and Holton scoring 6 points. NC took a 20-9 lead into halftime.

After halftime, the Thunder scored 8 points while Holton was unable to score any points. The last quarter saw NC score 5 points, while Holton scored 6 points. The eighth grade B-team won with a score of 33-15.

“We played well and executed on offense and defense,” said Dalton Childress.

The seventh grade A-team started out with NC gaining a lead scoring 7 points, while the Wildcats only scored 2 points. The second quarter was close with NC scoring 6 points and Holton scoring 4 points. The Thunder was up at halftime 13-6

After halftime, both teams continued to play well with NC gaining 4 points and Holton scoring 6 points. NC finished the game with a strong defense, not allowing Holton to score any points, while scoring 6 of their own. The final score of the game was 23-12 with NC getting the victory.

Both seventh grade B-teams played well with Holton starting out with a lead scoring 7 points and NC scoring 4. The second quarter was also a close one with NC scoring 2 points and Holton scoring 3. Holton had the lead at halftime 10-6.

After halftime, NC took the lead by scoring 9 points and only allowing Holton to score 2 points. Holton did not give up in the final quarter scoring 6 points while NC only scored 2.  After a close game, the Wildcats won by a single point with a score of 17-18.

“We played well as a team,” said Spencer Lockhart.

All teams played well with NC bringing home wins by both eighth grade teams and the seventh A-team. Holton snuck a win home in the seventh grade B-team game.  Overall, it was a great night of Thunder basketball.
