NCMS Basketball has Tough Night Against Sabetha

The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School boys basketball team played their second home game against the Sabetha Bluejays on Thursday, January 9. The NC basketball teams were trying to get some wins against their county rivals, while Sabetha was also trying to get some victories.

The first quarter of the 8th grade A-team game was a slow start for NC as they only scored 5 points as Sabetha took the lead by scoring 6 points. The second quarter was another close quarter with NC scoring 8, while Sabetha scored 9. By the end of the first half, it was 13-15 with Sabetha in the lead.

At the start of the second half, NC had another close quarter scoring 5 while Sabetha only scored 4 points. In the fourth quarter, NC had a bad offensive quarter only scoring 3. Sabetha took the game by scoring 7 points in the last quarter. The ending score was 21-26 for the Thunder’s first loss.

“It’s a shame we didn’t win, but we will get them next time,” said Abe Hilbert.

In the first quarter of the 8th grade B-team game, NC managed to score 6 points, but Sabetha took the lead scoring 8. The second quarter was a slow one as NC only scored 4 but held Sabetha at 3. At the end of the half, the score was tight at 10-11 in favor of Sabetha.

The third quarter was a bad quarter offensively for the Thunder as they were unable to score. Sabetha took advantage of the Thunder’s weak defense to score 15 points. In the last quarter of the game, NC had a great offensive quarter scoring 16 points, while holding Sabetha at 5. The final score was 26-31 for the 8th grade B-team’s first loss.

In the 7th grade A-team game, NC got off to a slow start only scoring half as many points as the Bluejays. The first quarter ended 5-10 with the Thunder team trailing. The second quarter was another bad quarter of offense for NC as they only scored 4 points. Sabetha stayed strong offensively scoring 8 points. The half time score was 9-18.

After the half, NC had yet another slow quarter only scoring 1 point, while Sabetha scored 8. It was the last quarter of the game and NC had a good offensive quarter scoring 12 points. However, Sabetha took the win by scoring 16 points. The final score of the game was 22-42.

“It was a difficult game and I think we could’ve played a little bit better,” said Luis Lambrecht.

The first quarter for the 7th grade B-team was a great quarter for NC scoring 6 points with Sabetha only scoring 4. In the second quarter, NC and Sabetha battled it out with both of them scoring 4 points. At the end of the half, it was 10-8 with NC in the lead.

It was the second half and NC was not doing well on offense only scoring 2 points. Sabetha took the opportunity to score 4 points to tie up the game. In the last quarter, NC managed to score 4 points while only allowing Sabetha 1 point. The final score was 16-13 with NC taking the win. 

Both NC and Sabetha played some great basketball, however, NC came up short in most of the games. The teams look forward to a rematch in the future at Sabetha.
