NCMS Lady Thunder Season Comes to an End

The Nemaha Central Lady Thunder headed down to Elwood on Monday, December 9, ready to play Riverside in basketball. It was the final game of the season and everyone was excited to play their best and win the last games!

The eighth grade A-team played first, with a rocky start to the game. The Thunder team didn’t score any points but allowed Riverside with 11. The second quarter was just as rough as Riverside scored another 9 points. At the end of the first half, the score of the game was 20-0, with the Thunder team trailing.

The second half went much better and by the end of the third quarter, the Thunder team scored 10 points. Riverside also scored 10 points, making the score 30-10. The last quarter went better for the Thunder. The final score of the game was 35-19. Although Riverside put up a fight and got the win, the Thunder team still played hard and tried their best. The league record for the eighth grade A-team this year was 8-6, with the Thunder losing a couple of close games. 

The eighth grade B-team played next, with a good start in the first quarter. The Thunder team scored an outstanding 11 points, while Riverside only had 2. In the second quarter, the Thunder team scored another 4 points. The score of the game was 15-3 at the end of the second quarter.

By the end of the third quarter, the Thunder team managed to add another 4 points to the board. The score of the game was 19-3 by the end of the third quarter. The Thunder team had an amazing finish to their game in the fourth quarter. Although Riverside scored 6 points, the Thunder team still came out ahead winning the game, 34-9. The eighth grade B-team had an amazing record of 11-1 for this season. 

“Despite struggling to score at the beginning of the game, I was very proud of how the girls fought back and didn’t quit. We had a lot of highs and lows this season, and the girls were very flexible with all the setbacks our team had,” said Coach Heather Sullivan.

The seventh grade A-team started off with a lot of energy in the first quarter and scored 16 points. They had left Riverside scoreless, making the score of the game a whopping 16-0. The Thunder team did just as outstanding in the second quarter and scored another 10 points. At the end of the first half, the score of the game was 26-0. 

In the third quarter of the game, Riverside added four points to their score. Although Riverside finally scored, the Thunder team still managed to add another 8 points to their already high score. The score at the end of the third quarter was 34-4. Looking good for the Thunder team, they played their last quarter of the game and scored another 9 points.  The final score of the game was 43-4, another outstanding win for the Thunder team. The record for the seventh grade A-team was 13-1, finishing with an amazing season.

The seventh grade B-team game started off very well, and the Thunder team scored 8 points in the first quarter. The score of the game was 8-0 at the beginning of the second quarter, but at the end of the first half, the score was 12-1. Even though Riverside scored a point, the Thunder team was still in the lead!

In the third quarter, Riverside scored 3 points but the Thunder team pulled through and scored another 16 points. The score of the game was 28-4 and Riverside was still no threat. In the last quarter of the game, the Thunder team stayed strong and scored 7 points. Leaving Riverside with no points in the last quarter, the score of the game ended up as 35-4. The seventh grade B-team’s record this year was 11-1 and they sure finished with a great game!

“I absolutely loved coaching the seventh grade girls basketball team this year! They all played very hard and improved so much from the beginning of the season to the end. We ended the season as Big 7 League Champs, and I’m so proud of all their hard work and dedication!” said Coach Bethany Griffith.
