NCMS Thunder Girls Get Clean Sweep

      Going into the Jeff West games, the eighth grade A-team had a record of 4-3, while the B-team had a record of 6-1. The seventh grade A-team had a record of 7-0, but the B-team had a record of 6-1. The eighth grade A-team and the eighth-grade B-team went into the Jeff West game looking for redemption, while the seventh grade A-team and seventh grade B-team went into the game looking to add another win to their record. The rematch took place on Thursday, November 14 on the Thunder home court.

       The first quarter of the eighth grade A-team started out slow with several turnovers before the Thunder girls finally scored some points. While the Thunder offense was slow, their defense was amazing keeping Jeff West from scoring any points. The score for the first quarter was 3-0. Jeff West came out in the second quarter looking to take the lead, but the Thunder defense was still on point, only allowing them room for a few baskets. The Thunder girls were getting some more life in their offense by looking to dump the ball into the posts to score some points. The score at halftime was 11-9. 

      The Thunder girls came out in the third quarter ready to win the game. The Jeff West defense was strong, but the Thunder team still managed to score six points. While the Thunder team tried to keep up their defense, Jeff West managed to find gaps and was able to score seven points. The score at the end of the third quarter was 17-16. The Thunder girls were looking to keep the lead, but Jeff West was looking to win the game. The Thunder girls went right into the fourth quarter with an impeccable offense and managed to look for open spots in the Tiger defense to score twelve points. Jeff West matched the hot offense, but came up short. The final score of the game was 29-27, with a Thunder victory. 

      Kylee Sperfslage said, “ We played great defense and put up a good press against Jeff West.”

      The eighth-grade B-team went into the first quarter ready to dominate, unfortunately, they were off to a very slow start and only managed to gain two points. The Thunder girl’s defense was great, but Jeff West scored four points. The score of the first quarter was 4-2. The second quarter started off with Jeff West scoring four more points right off the bat, but the Thunder team still held them at bay from scoring more points. The Thunder girls were not doing so hot still in the second quarter. They managed to score two points before the end of the quarter. The half time score was 8-4.

      The Thunder team jumped into the third quarter with an amazing offense scoring six points. The Thunder girls were working on defense, but the Tigers scored five more points. The score at the end of the third quarter was 13-10. The Jeff West offense was failing in the final quarter and they only managed to score two points on the superb Thunder defense. The Thunder came out into the final quarter looking for redemption. Their offense was in point this quarter and they scored seven points to put them in the lead. The final score of the game was 19-15, and the Thunder were on a roll in the eighth grade.

      The seventh grade A-team was looking to stay undefeated, so they came out ready to win the game. The first quarter was a slow quarter with only the Thunder and Jeff West scoring two points. The score of the first quarter was 2-2. The Thunder offense was outstanding going into the second quarter and they scored ten points. The Thunder’s defense was doing amazing also only allowing Jeff West one basket. The score at halftime was 12-4.

      The Thunder team dominated the third quarter with amazing defense once again. The Thunder girls were on a roll scoring another twelve points with no difficulty. On the other hand, Jeff West was struggling to keep the ball on their side of the court and only managed to score a total of four points. The score at the end of the third quarter was 24-8. The Thunder girls were ready to put the game away and they did so by making sure they kept the lead. Once again the Thunder team had some superb offense and made another twelve points to ensure the lead. Jeff West was not doing so hot in the last quarter and was only allowed to score a basket, unlike the Thunder. The final score of the game was 36-10. 

      Emmery Schmelzle said, “It was really fun to play against Jeff West. We got to run through our plays and I was happy to beat them.”

      The seventh grade B-team was looking for another win to add to their record going into the Jeff West game. The B-team started the game off with a magnificent offense and scored twelve points. While their offense was hot, their defense was also great and they only allowed Jeff West a couple of measly points. The score in the first quarter was 12-2. The Thunder was off to a great start in the second quarter scoring eight more points, while the Jeff West defense was still trying to figure out how to stop them. The Jeff West offense was not doing much better than their defense only scoring two more points. The score at halftime was 18-4.

      The Thunder came out onto the floor ready to put an even bigger lead between themselves and Jeff West. Jeff West was still doing poorly, but they managed to score four points. The Thunder girls were once again dominating the court and scored nine more points. The third quarter score was 27-8. The Thunder team was ready to win the game in the final quarter, and so to ensure their victory they scored nine more points. Jeff West ended the final quarter scoring two points. The final score of the game was 36-10.

      In conclusion, all the Thunder teams won giving them a clean sweep on the night. The girls played really well in the Jeff West games and it showed. The Thunder teams ended the night happy with their victories and excited for their next opponent.
