NCMS Begins Wrestling Program

The first Nemaha Central Middle School Thunder wrestling team went down to Doniphan West to have their first-ever wrestling meet on Saturday, November 2. This season there are 5 eighth grade wrestlers, Miles Carpenter, John Langill, Holden Bass, Abe Hilbert, and Dalton Childress. The seventh grade has 7 wrestlers, Peyton Ross, Spencer Lockhart, Abram Keim, Luis Lambrecht, Dayton Nelson, Isaac Barrett, and Ayden New. The coaches are Schuyler Mayberry and Mark Mayberry and the manager is Tanner Gudenkauf.

At the meet at Doniphan West, only nine wrestlers took part.  The following are the results from the meet. Luis Lambrecht placed second in the 95-pound division. Luis had four really tough matches but ended up winning all but one. Luis worked really hard and did really well for his first time wrestling.

Miles Carpenter placed first in the 105-pound division. Miles was the first student in NCMS history to get a pin. Miles had a really hard couple of matches winning two and losing one but he managed to pull through.

John Langill placed second in the 110-pound division. John had three great matches but had a sad close defeat on his last match. John worked hard and encouraged everyone.

Ayden New placed third in the 133-pound division. Ayden wrestled hard and ended up doing well for his first time wrestling. Ayden put in time to achieve his place in his heart breaking matches.

Peyton Ross placed third in the 148-pound weight class. Peyton was one of the few athletes who had wrestled before. Peyton did his best and worked very hard. He fought in some very tough matches.

Spencer Lockhart placed second in the 155-pound weight class. Spencer had a few years of wrestling experience which helped with his technique. Spencer achieved his placing after working hard and not giving in no matter how close a match was.

Abram Keim placed second in the 165-pound weight class. Abram had the most wrestling experience out of the Nemaha Central team. He worked hard and lost in a really close match, which is how he got his place.

Abe Hilbert placed second in the 215-pound weight class. Abe was a first time wrestler and had one of the first matches for Nemaha Central. Abe worked hard to achieve his place.

Holden Bass placed first in the 265-pound weight class. It was Holden’s first time like some of the other athletes. Holden had a match that went into triple overtime. Holden ended up winning with a pin getting him his third and last match win.

“It was a fun meet and we learned a lot more about wrestling,” said John Langill.

“It was awesome. We did pretty good for the first year of school wrestling,” said Abram Keim.

All in all, the first wrestling meet was a huge success. All the wrestlers did really well. They look forward to a great season.
