The NCMS Thunder Sweeps the Perry Kaws

The Nemaha Central Lady Thunder basketball team took on the Perry-Lecompton Kaws on Tuesday, November 5. The Lady Thunder took on the Kaws at home. The eighth grade A-team is 4-1, while the B-team is 3-1. The seventh grade A-team is 5-0, while the B-team is 3-1.

The eighth grade A-team fought back and forth with the Kaws in the first quarter. They pulled ahead at the end of the first quarter 11-10. The Thunder girls came out strong in the second quarter and finished the half with a larger lead, 16-11.

In the third quarter, the Thunder had to battle the Kaws, but narrowly fell behind because of a three-pointer made by the Kaws before the end of the third quarter making the score 20-22. In the fourth quarter, the Thunder was able to pull ahead by making clutch free-throws to win the game 25-23.

Mya Ganstrom said, “We did really good and we played as a team.”

The eighth grade B-team started well and played great defense by keeping the Kaws scoreless. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 4-0. They dominated Perry in the second quarter taking a 21-2 lead at halftime.

The B-team kept the pressure up in the third quarter, scoring four more baskets, making the score 29-2. They finished strong in the fourth quarter and dominated the Perry B-team ending the night with a score of 37-6.

The seventh grade A-team had a strong start scoring twelve points and keeping the Kaws scoreless in the first quarter. They came back out in the second quarter and scored three more baskets, but let the Kaws get on the board with a basket. The Thunder had a commanding lead at the end of the second quarter, 18-2.

The seventh grade A-team continued to hustle up and down the floor, scoring six more points in the third quarter. Their defense was great and they only allowed the Kaws two more points.The score at the end of the third quarter was 24-4. In the fourth quarter, the Thunder continued to pressure the Kaws and managed to score four more baskets, while the Kaws only scored two more points. The Thunder ended the game winning with a score of 32-6.

Cali Honeyman said, “It was really fun to just try new things out and run through our offense a lot.”

This time, the seventh grade B-team only played two quarters due to the number of players out for basketball in the seventh grade for Perry. The Thunder team scored six points in the first quarter and were able to keep the Kaws scoreless. The Thunder started out the second quarter strong scoring nine more points, while only allowing the Kaws to score three points. The Thunder team finished the game, winning, with a score of 15-3.

The Lady Thunder will have a lot of basketball in a short period of time. They will play 3 league games and participate in a tournament all within 10 days. The season is moving quickly as they will be playing a team for the second time already. Keep rolling Thunder girls basketball.
