NCEMS Celebrates Halloween

Students arrived to school at Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle school on Thursday, October 31, ready to have fun and celebrate Halloween. The middle school students were allowed to wear their costumes to school and pay $1, while the elementary students would dress up for their class parties and the parade at the end of the school day.

During their parties the elementary students did fun activities with their class. Some of the activities were pin the donkey, toilet paper mummies, coloring, ring toss, and more! Snacks were provided for the elementary parties and students received candy from their teachers. The elementary students were also involved in a parade in the gym to show their costumes.

The eighth grade students were required to bring three baked goods for a silent auction. Students and staff could bid on the baked items throughout the day and some items could be bought individually for students to enjoy. The money raised from the auction will be used for future school activities.

The middle school students that wore costumes were also competing in a contest. The contest was for the most original and unique costumes along with the most black. The winners were Samantha Holthaus, 8th grade, and Bob Langill, 6th grade, for the most original and unique. Dayton Nelson, 7th grade, and Auron Hoskins, 6th grade won the most black. The winners received $5 and a candy bar of their choice.

Destine Cleveland said, “Everybody had fun and there were creative costume ideas.”

Another thing the middle school students did was activities in Mrs. Laurie Stallbaumer’s class all week. Several students also got involved with decorating teachers’ doors for halloween. Overall, it was a great week in the middle school.

The NCEMS students walked out of school with some trick or treat bags and some candy from their teachers. The students didn’t have school on Friday so they had an extra day out of school, so the students could sleep in an extra day which made it that much better.

Evan Bletscher said, “Everybody had fun and it turned out to be a good day.”
