NCMS Girls Basketball Season Kicks off with a Pep Rally

The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School had a pep rally for the girls first basketball game on Monday, October 21. Dr. Amy Beck introduced the cheerleaders and they started the pep rally off with a little cheer to get the crowd in the spirit.

After the cheer, the volleyball and football coaches talked about their seasons. The eighth grade volleyball team went to the Big Seven League Tournament seeded fifth place and ended up placing second. The seventh grade volleyball team went undefeated this season and took first place at the Big 7 League Tournament. The football team had a record of 6-1 this season, beating Holton for the first time in NC middle school history. Dr. Beck summarized the cross country team by saying how well the athletes have been performing at their meets and wished them good luck on their last meet. After the summary of the fall sports, the new season, girls basketball was addressed with the introductions of the basketball players.

“I thought that the fall sports teams did a great job this season,” said Cali Honeyman.

The cheerleaders planned some games for the girls basketball players and managers. One of the games was having them make paper airplanes and try to throw them in a trashcan. Very few of them were able to fly the plane into the trashcan, even after several tries. The last game was eighth grade versus seventh grade in a relay race. The girls had to put a balloon between their legs and run to the other sideline and then pop the balloon. After they popped it, they had to run back for the next person to go. The eighth grade beat the seventh grade by a long shot.

“It was really fun watching the girls basketball team play the games,” said Bracin Stallbuamer.

To end the pep rally, the cheerleaders started the traditional V-I-C-T-O-R-Y chant. The judges for this pep rally were Bethany Griffith and Heather Sullivan, the girls basketball coaches. With a tough choice to pick from, the winner was fifth grade.

All in all, the fall sports teams had excellent seasons and the girls are hoping to have another for basketball.
