NCEMS Football team taking the field

The Nemaha Central Thunder football team played their first home game against  Perry-Lecompton on Thursday, September 12. The Thunder had a home field advantage and wanted another win like the one last week against Jeff West. The Thunder boys were looking to beat Perry and pull off another win to go 2-0 on the season.

In the first quarter of the game, both teams had a slow start to the game. Perry kicked off to NC and because NC did not touch the ball, Perry ended up recovering it to take the first possession. During Perry’s next possession, they ended up driving the ball down the field to the end zone to score.  Perry was stopped on the two-point conversion by NC leaving the score 6-0 with a Perry lead. In the second quarter, NC ended up scoring on a touchdown pass from Reid McKee to Miles Carpenter. NC scored the two-point conversion, but neither team scored again that half leaving the score 8-6 with a Thunder lead.

In the third quarter, NC kicked to Perry and Perry had the ball first after half. NC didn’t let Perry score, but NC ended up scoring two touchdowns. NC scored one two-point conversion but didn’t score the other. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 22-6 with an NC lead. In the fourth quarter, Perry did not score and NC scored one more touchdown. NC scored the two-point conversion and nobody scored again.

The final score ended up being 28-6.  NC was victorious and are now 2-0 on the season. NC went home with another victory and are now looking to prepare for their upcoming games.

After the normal game, a fifth quarter was played. NC was on defense first. In the fifth quarter, Perry didn’t score on their ten plays.   Once NC was on offense, they ended up scoring on the Perry defense on their set of plays. The fifth quarter is a great opportunity for the younger players to get some football experience.

John Langill said, “We did not do very well in the first half, but came back in the second half to win it.”

Abram Keim said, “The game went good, we crushed them, and everybody did well.”
