First NCEMS Pep Rally of the Year

The Nemaha Central Elementary and Middle School had their first pep rally on Thursday, September 12. The students were really excited to see the athletes and coaches for the fall sports season, but most important of all, the students wanted to win the spirit stick for their grade!

The cheerleaders opened the pep rally with a fun cheer. The NCEMS cheerleaders are sponsored by Deb Schmitz. This year's cheerleaders are Feryn Feldkamp, Sabina De Buen, and Tess Walle.

The next event at the pep rally was the introduction of the cross country runners, football players and managers, and the volleyball players and managers. The football and volleyball players introduced themselves and gave the position they played.  After introductions, Dr. Beck gave a challenge to the students to "git up" and become involved. Then, Mrs. Chelsey Haverkamp questioned Dr. Beck about the new dance called the Git Up.

Several of the staff members came out of the stands and started dancing to the Git Up song on the gym floor. During the Git Up dance, there is a part that you can add in your own dance moves. Some of the teachers showed off their dance skills by doing dances like the floss, the worm, and the hype. The students laughed and pointed at the staff members and the teachers they knew. The students thought it was a great way to add spirit at the pep rally.

Finally, the pep rally ended with the usual V-I-C-T-O-R-Y cheer. The staff and all grades of the students shouted V-I-C-T-O-R-Y. Coach Hadden Hiltgen and Coach Nikki Honeyman were the judges this time, and the winner was, 8th-grade class!

All in all, the students had a great time at the first pep rally of the year. They had fun yelling V-I-C-T-O-R-Y and seeing their teachers and other staff members dancing to Git Up. It was a great way to kick off the fall sports season.

Caleb Hynek said, “The Git Up challenge was really funny!”

Ellie Burkitt said, “It was funny when all the teachers danced to the song.”
