NC Thunder Plays Last Game Against Jeff West

    The last time the Nemaha Central Middle School basketball team played against Jeff West, they had accomplished a nice team win. This time Jeff West was playing NC on their home court for the last basketball game of the season on Thursday, February 21.

    The game started off very well for the NC 8th-grade A-team as they scored right off the tip. Jeff West couldn’t handle what the Thunder team was bringing. NC scored 14 to Jeff West who only scored 4. The second quarter consisted of the same tempo for NC scoring another 11 points, while Jeff West scored 6.  The halftime score was 25-10 with a commanding Thunder lead.

    NC kept on chugging along outplaying Jeff West in every facet.  The score at the end of the third quarter was 37-19. NC kept playing amazing basketball throughout the fourth quarter and they finished the game with a victory, 44-28. The NC Thunder 8th-grade A-team boys capped off a good season with a win, making their season record, 10-4.

    For the 8th-grade B-team, they had lost in their last game against Jeff West. The game started off slow with NC scoring 4 and Jeff West scoring 5. In the second quarter, NC couldn’t produce many points only scoring 2 with Jeff West scoring 7 points. NC was trailing to Jeff West at halftime, 6-12.

    After halftime, NC had raised their tempo just a bit, but Jeff West had raised their tempo tremendously. The score at the end of the third quarter was 13-24. In the final quarter, NC was playing some good offense scoring 12, but Jeff West was able to hold onto the lead. The final score was 25-34. The 8th-grade B-team finished their season 3-9.

     Cayden Edelman said, “I think that the team did a great job throughout the season.”

    For the 7th grade A-team, they were looking to win this game and have an amazing season and they did just that. The game started at a decent pace for NC scoring 8 points in the first quarter, while Jeff West scored only 2. The second quarter was very slow for both teams. NC scored 4 points and Jeff West only scored 1 point. At halftime, the score was 12-3.

    Coming out of the half, both teams picked it up a bit. NC scored 8 more points but slacked a little bit on defense allowing 5 points for the Tigers. The score at the end of the third quarter was 20-8. In the fourth quarter, NC played some good offense scoring 10 points. They held Jeff West to only 6 points in the final quarter. The final score was 30-14. The 7th grade A-team finished a tremendous season with a record of 13-1.

    Reid McKee said, “It was a fun game to play in. It was a great season and I miss playing with those guys.”

    For the 7th grade B-team, the game started off very slow with good defense being played by each side. The score at the end of the first quarter was 5-4, NC was down. In the second quarter, NC came out on fire hitting shot after shot, scoring 12 points while holding Jeff West to only 3. The score at halftime was 17-7.

    Coming out of halftime, NC’s fierceness on offense had dissolved. They only scored 2 points while letting Jeff West score 8. In the fourth quarter, NC had matched Jeff West’s scoring with both teams putting 8 points on the board. But with NC’s killer execution in the first half, they were able to get a win, 27-23. The 7th-grade B-team finished the season 10-2.

    Head coach Mr. Bass said, "I feel our season went very good. I think we transitioned into a new league very well. We got better as the season went on and that's what most coaches want to see."
