On Monday, February 18, the Thunder boys basketball team took on Riverside at home. The 8th-grade B-team was the first team to play. Both teams played pretty evenly with the score at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter. During the break between quarters, the Thunder boys got a great pep talk because when they stepped onto the court they scored 18 while holding Riverside to only 2. Going into halftime the score was 24-8, with the Thunder leading. Going into the third quarter, the Thunder had another good showing advancing the lead to 35-13. Holding strong at the end of the game the Thunder boys won, 43-17.

Chase Korber said, “I think we played our best basketball all season this game.”

Right after that, the Thunder 7th-grade A-team played. They jumped out to a great start and set the tempo for the rest of the game ending the quarter 25-2. The next quarter they kept on their spectacular play increasing their lead, 41-2. After halftime, the effort from the Thunder boys remained the same as they played on, pushing the score to 53-4. In the fourth quarter, the boys closed out the game well with the final score of 63-4.

Cooper Scott said, ”We all had a good time and played great as a team.”

The final game of the night the 8th-grade A-team played. The Thunder boys took the lead in the first quarter but still weren’t playing their best basketball. The score at the end of the first quarter was 8-6, with a Thunder 2 point advantage. The second quarter was when they started playing their game pushing the lead to 23-10. Coming out of halftime, both teams played to the same level as the first quarter, with the score 31-16. Then in the fourth quarter, the Thunder boys sustained their lead, winning the game 44-25.

Cooper Hajek said, “It was a good experience to get our confidence back and play as a team.”

This game marked the third clean sweep of the season and was possibly the best game the teams had played.
