The Royal Valley Panthers headed to the Nemaha Central Middle School for boys basketball games on Thursday, February 14. The middle school games are normally played at the high school, but due to weather coming in on Friday, they were moved to the middle school. Since all games were to be played at the middle school, the order of games was 7th-grade B-team, 8th-grade B-team, 7th-grade A-team, and 8th-grade A-team.

The seventh-grade B-team kicked off the night playing the first game against Royal Valley. The first quarter went well for the Thunder boys as they got off to a great start scoring 9 points while holding the Panthers scoreless. In the second quarter, both teams managed to score 4 points making the halftime score 13-4 in favor of the NC team.

After halftime, the Thunder team came out and scored 8 points and held the Panthers to 3 points. The Thunder was up 21-7 going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was another good quarter for the Thunder team as they outscored the Panthers 6-2. The Thunder 7th-grade B-team boys picked up another victory on the season with a score of 27-9.

The 8th-grade B-team game was next and the team knew they would have to play hard to get the win. The first quarter started off slow for the Thunder only scoring 5 points and the Panthers scoring 8 points. The second quarter was better for the Thunder as they scored 10 points and the Panthers were held to 2 points. The halftime score was 15-10 with a Thunder lead.

“I did not think I played as hard as I could in the first quarters,” said Brandon Rogers.

When halftime was over, the Thunder team was ready to go for the win. The third quarter didn’t look too hot for the Thunder team as they only scored 2 points and the Panthers managed to score 12 points. The Panthers took the lead by the end of the third quarter 22-17. The Thunder boys knew what they had to do to get the lead back from the Panthers to get the win. The fourth quarter went pretty well for the Thunder team as they took the lead back and went on for the win by scoring 15 to the Panthers 4. The final score of the game was 32-26. The Thunder 8th-grade B-team was able to add another win to their record.

The seventh grade A-team started off strong scoring 13 points in the first quarter and holding Royal Valley to just 2 points. In the second quarter, the Thunder team had put 15 more points up on the board and only allowed Royal Valley to 6 points. The halftime score was 28-8 with the Thunder team taking a 20-point lead at the half.

After halftime, the Thunder team let up a bit only scoring 7 points, but still holding the Panthers to just 2 points. The Thunder team went on to score 6 points in the fourth quarter and held the Panthers scoreless. The final score was 41-10 for another Thunder victory

“I think our team could have played harder and could have beat them by way more," said Miles Carpenter.

The 8th-grade A-team played last on the night. The first quarter started off pretty strong for the Thunder scoring 10 and the Panthers were down by 3, only scoring 7 points. The second quarter was another great offensive quarter for the Thunder team as they scored 11 points. Defensively, the Panther team was able to score 9 points to stay in the game. The halftime score was 21-16 with a Thunder lead.

Once halftime was over, the third quarter started and the Thunder knew they were going to have to work hard to get the win. The Thunder team scored 10 points and the Panthers scored 6 points. This increased the Thunder lead going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter started and the Thunder had the goal to get the win as they scored 8 points, but the Panthers also scored 8 points. However, the Thunder team managed to keep the lead and get the win with a final score of 39-30. The Thunder boys had another great win to get the clean sweep for the night.
