The last time the Nemaha Central Middle School Thunder boys faced off against the Perry Lecompton Kaws, the Kaws were at their home court and the Thunder won by 6. This time, they were matched up in the NCHS Gym, NC’s home court on Thursday, January 31.

The first quarter was very strong for NC as they showed lots of intensity scoring 12 points in the first quarter. The first 10 points were scored by Blake Stallbaumer. The end of the quarter score was 12-4 with Perry down. The second quarter was very slow for the Thunder as they did not score, but they did allow Perry to score 5. The score was 12-9 at halftime, NC up.

Coming out of halftime, the Thunder boys had made some adjustments to make sure they had the game under control. The Thunder played great defense on the Kaws, holding them to only 3 points. NC had come out and doubled the number of points the Kaws had scored, making the score 18-12. The fourth quarter was very intense because the Thunder boys knew the Kaws were to give them everything they had to win the game. The Kaws weren’t ready for what NC had though, as the Thunder notched out a well-fought win, 25-16.

"I thought that it was a good game and that we played our hardest," said Treyvan Enneking.

In the 8th grade B-team’s last matchup against the Kaws, they lost on a last second three. This game they were prepared to give it all they had to get their first win.

The game started well for the Thunder scoring 6 to Perry’s 3 in the opening quarter. But in the second quarter, Perry went on a big run scoring 11 points to NC’s 6. That made the halftime score 12-14, NC down.

The B-team boys had a talk with the coach about what they needed to do to get a win in this game. The Thunder team held Perry to only 6 points in the third quarter, while scoring 6 too. In the fourth quarter, it was an intense battle all the way through. But in the end, NC lost by 3 points. The final score was 25-28.

For the 7th grade A-team, this game was a total blowout. The Thunder boys were coming into this game knowing they could dominate any team. The start of the game was fast for the Thunder scoring 15, while shutting out Perry. The second quarter consisted of the same level of play with NC scoring 23 more points and allowing Perry 6. The score at halftime was 38-6.

Coming out of halftime, NC was confident in their game scoring 16 more points and only allowing 2 for the Kaws. The score at the end of the third quarter was 54-8. In the fourth quarter, NC shut them out once more while scoring 13 of their own. The final score was 67-8.

"It was a fun and dominating performance by our team," said Abe Hilbert.

The 7th grade B-team only played a half against the Kaws. The game was a slow start for both teams but ended up with NC scoring 6 and Perry scoring 2. The second quarter came with ease for the Thunder, scoring 10, with Perry scoring 4. The end of the game was 16-6.

These games against the Perry Lecompton Kaws resulted in 3 wins and a close loss for the Thunder teams. Good effort by the Thunder boys!
