Raising money for the American Heart Association has been an annual goal for Nemaha Central Elementary students. Each year students in first grade through fifth grade participate in Jump Rope for Heart. This year the event was held on Wednesday, January 30 in the NCEMS gymnasium. About a month before the event, students are given a packet to collect money to donate to the American Heart Association. Then on the day of Jump Rope for Heart, the money is brought together to see how much was donated.

At the event each year there are various activities for the students to enjoy. The event runs from approximately 8:30 to 11:00 with stations that the students rotate through. The activities at each station were jump roping, climbing the rock wall, walking around the gym, snack/apple break, and GoNoodle in the music room. After every class had gone through all the stations, it was time for the big jump rope competition. Out of every class, one winner is crowned as the jump rope champion, by seeing who can jump rope the longest. This year's winners were (first-fifth), Tatum Snyder, McKenna Griffith, Alivia Stallbaumer, Jean Yumba, and Kailey Mady. Then comes the moment that everyone awaits, to see how much money they raised. The total ended up coming to a whopping $8,241! Since the students raised so much, Mr. Cory Bass is going to be dyeing his facial hair at a later date.

“My favorite part about Jump Rope for Heart was the rock wall, and I had a lot of fun!” said Meg Honeyman.

Jack Macke commented, “It was a great time, and very exciting.”

We would like to say thank you to everyone that helped out at the event including the first through fifth-grade teachers, Mr. Cory Bass, and Mrs. Chelsey Haverkamp. Also a big thanks to the money counters, Mrs. Jessica Koch, Carrie Young, and Mrs. Odette Helm. At the end of the event, I think everyone feels great that they were able to help out such an amazing cause!
